No Scimitars at Circuit des Remparts '16

Post by DARK STAR » Sat Jan 28, 2017 10:44 pm

Unless anyone knows different.
I waded through hundreds of photos and found no Scimitars but I did find this strange Aston Martin-like beast.
It looks a bit like a Zagato but not really.
I have photos of 22 of the 19 8) DB4GT Zagato cars built and this is not one of them.
Any ideas?

Is it a Bradfield replica?

I know that there was going to be a UK Middlebridge Scimitar there but it had to pull out at the last minute. I suspect it will be going this year as the owner is a big fan of Circuit des Remparts.

It's a free form Zagato rep (ie not Zagato) built on a DB6.

Found it - it's a Shapecraft replica with an RSW engine on DB6 #2417

19 plus 4 official "sanction II" cars in the 80s?

....And also not forgetting the two "Sanction III" cars completed at the beginning of the noughties (very naughty if you ask me! ).

Thanks chaps, I knew I'd find the answer here!
For a 'replica' it is not very convincing, how could they get the radiator grille so wrong?
But it's certainly better looking than a DB6.

The price this year for the package staying at the mercure is £2,690.00 for a car plus two.
I will miss this year, that's a bit much for a weekend !!

I was there last year and can confirm that there wasn't a Scimitar listed in the programme or parked anywhere around Angouleme.

Here's another car that isn't a Scimitar - or a Zagato.
It is an Aston Martin DB7, very pretty and probably as quick as a real one ...

Since this has become an Aston Martin thread, here's another replica, rather flashy, of the famous 2 VEV.
Pretty good apart from the bulky back end (and the color  )

It's interesting that 1VEV and 2VEV as they are now, look significantly different. Here's 1VEV: (photo from the web)

Image

Both started off the same, but after a major crash in 1962, 2VEV was rebuilt, in DP209 lightweight, lower-drag form (I think there are only 3 Zagatos like that?

2 VEV was modified by the works to be lower and wider than the 'average' Zagato.
In early photos it looks the same as 1 VEV.
I think I read somewhere that it has now been restored to original.
