Still some pages scrambled but I have completely re-jigged the index page to overcome problems on that.
This one is just missing the background colours at the moment

I seem to have recovered all the content but have found another bizarre problem -
the page layout can show differently on different computers
Even on another Mac the (many) elements on the intro page sometimes appear unrelated.
Another peculiarity of GoDaddy which I will try to overcome if a few of you could send me screen caps of what appears on YOUR screen ...

Meanwhile here is the latest page, which needs more contributions from all you european travellers

Took a while to post a picture on your awesome French Internet  but the layout is fine on an iPhone - just the pile of links across the top that are unreadable due to colour clash.

Thanks, Jim, that's great.
I'm going to change the colours as soon as I get the layout sorted, it wasn't supposed to be lavender

Hello Chris,

Here is how it looks under Firefox 44.0.2 on my PC running ... Windows XP
I don't mind the lavander background, but you can change it ...
Love the green version of Purple  but you can make it lavander as well
Cheers, Fred

Hi Fred
I thought Jim's news was too good to be true.
On your computer the horrible 'Times Roman' typeface is back - does that mean you don't have 'Bradley Hand' on your computer?
And the text is displaced, I can't decide if the problem is in line spacing or in page width.

We should explain for those who don't know, the car illustrated is Fred's notorious 'Purple' - but I changed the color a bit ;)

I thought I'd better change the color, that's easy.
Still wondering about the rest ...

Oh oh ... no Bradley Hand font here :? But again remember I have a 'classic PC' ... XP, MsOffice 2003
Will give it a try tomorrow in the office on a Seven Pro and using Chrome, see what happens !

Cheers,
Fred

That looks about right apart from the Times Roman, I must change the font.
Is Comic Sans standard on Windows?

Depends what you mean by the question. I don't think I've ever done anything that has appeared in Comic sans by default, but it is, AFAIK, one of the standard available fonts in windows. Mind you, if you're thinking of using it, perhaps you should read this (slightly tongue-in-cheek?) BBC report?

Yes, Comic Sans is a standard Windoze font. It's one of those though - just because you can doesn't mean you should...

Arial, Helvetica or Calibri are inoffensive enough.

Chris,
I checked the advanced settings of Chrome on my PC and it was set to 'Times Roman' ...
Have changed the settings to 'Comic Sans MS', saved and restarted Chrome ... no differences :?
I then looked at the source code of Scimitar France's home page, and I can find only one instance of 'font' in the code ... and it seems to set the font to 'Arial' at least for the navigation bar.
I would assume that there is no enforced font defined for the other components of the page (?) thus the browser would probably just use its own settings ??
I leave it to the experts though
Cheers,
Fred

I wanted something more interesting than Arial/Helvetica (Don't know Calibri - that must be Widnows)
Or Futura, which I used to replace other 'exotic' fonts.
Is there an informal bold script that is universally recognized? Murray Hill?

Fred, the problem is apparently that if the receiving computer doesn't recognize the font it defaults to Times Roman.
If it does have the typeface on file there is no problem.
This is presumably a(nother) quirk of GoDaddy, probably the slowest and least efficient server in the world.
