SE6a (I think) in France

Postby DARK STAR » Mon Mar 13, 2017 1:39 pm

Not very well up on chassis numbers, would I be right in assuming this is the chassis plate of an SE6a?
In any case it is in France and has recently been imported by Jerome Nourry, who is registering it in France.

I thought 7D would've been April 1977?

7D = built in april 1977.
Maybe in stock for about two years? Belgian original cars almost all are built in late 1976 early 1977 but some of them did not get a first reg until as late as 1980

Here it is, and very smart too.
Jerome is based in Boulogne.
Erik knows the car and will come up with more historic details ...

Mods, perhaps I should have posted this in Europe General?

This car belonged to a friend of mine, and before that, to another friend of mine. So I have known this car for at least 18 years now.
The car was both used and well maintained. So it should be sound and practical. Sorry to see another car to leave the Netherlands, but it is symptomatic for the classic cars climate over here.

Amazing coincidence, this is the car of Patrice Beauchant, who lives a few kilometres away ...

For future reference could someone please explain the VIN/chassis number codes, I am baffled.
I can understand (197)7 abcD april but after that?
Do they also show options (leather, Woolfies ...)

I had a quick look but can't find a definitive answer about the VIN decode but it's in TSAIF and later factory workshop manuals.

There's a few snippets in different threads (such as the LHD coding) and it changed in Oct 79 to the 17 digit international (except for the US obviously :-)) system.
