Camping in Wiltshire in August

Post by DavePoole » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:25 am

Hi All,

After Curborough, Teresa and I plan to put a few more miles on the GTE and head down to Wiltshire for the week.

We plan to visit Stonehenge (as I have never seen it), Lacock Abbey, Avebury Stone Circle and Longleat Safari Park etc and wondered if anyone can recommend a nice, but relatively cheap campsite? It must toilet/showers, as we'll be in a tent. Alternatively, does anyone know of a cheap Static caravan we can rent for the week :D (August 18th to 23rd)

Also if anyone knows of any other places worth visiting in the area then all suggestions welcome :D

Many Thanks

Dave Poole :D

I live near Stonehenge and so have never had reason to use any of the campsites around here, so not much help really. I will however keep an eye out for your GTE that week. :)

Dave, I know the perfect place for you.
It's on the edge of the village of Tilshead, actually on Salisbury Plain. About 15 mins from the henge, and aprox 45 mins from Avebury.

great site, reasonable rates etc.

It's also a max 30 mins from me in case you need a place to tinker.

Popped into the Woodbridge Inn on my way by - convenient for Stonehenge and Avebury etc but while it looks nice, the price seemed a bit steep to me (£6 per person)?

Will check out the Three Magpies tonight and report back :-)

We're staying on Pewsey Boat Club about a mile or two from Hillview Park in Oare (mainly static homes but also has camping) - can check it out if you want?

Let me know if there's anywhere that takes your fancy and I'll try and check it out before we go home on Sunday.
