Petrol tank
Hi all, does the petrol tank on SS1 come out through the boot? Put 30 quids in yesterday for the show run and guess what? Been fine till then with quarter tank sat in the garage. Luckily by the time we got there was obviously below the problem as no leak. Car came with a load of spares, guess that’s why there’s a tank in the selection.
Car went great to the show, a lot of people looking and asking what is was. Thanks again to Dave for supplying us with the electrical gizmatroids to get it going.
Cheers, Rob

Yes - remove the boot liner and it comes out the boot
Tips for removing the tank - be very careful of the rubber hoses where they attach to the sender (unless it’s a quite late car) and cut, don’t twist (then replace obviously).

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

what Phil is saying is ' do NOT try and wiggle the hoses off the sender'

I found I could 'just' remove the sender with the hoses STILL attached from the tank, not sure if the tank would be possible to remove out through the boot with the hoses left attached? (and NOT break the sender?)

The pipes that have obviously been replaced are too long anyway so I’ll cut them off before taking the tank out. When the new one goes in I’ll make the pipes a neater fit by chopping to the right length. As the old saying goes, if it looks right etc.

Make sure it's the tank before removing as mine leaked from the sender pipes because of them being attached with the wrong clips ! This of course happens when the tank is over the point where the sender is fitted not with a low level just as yours did ,just a thought

Got the leak sorted. Wasn’t the tank after all that but the filler neck rubber. Seemed to be holding a small amount of petrol after going round a left hander then leaking because it was rotten around the clips. Replaced the fuel pipes anyway as they looked in a similar state. Luckily we had a bit of filler hose left from our Lotus Elan project. Job sorted.
Just a thought, the spare tank we have is not exactly the same as the ti one. What is the purpose of the extra vent pipe on the injection tank? Other than that looks the same. Don’t need the tank anyway, just wondering.

The extra vent pipe is used when they went from a vented to a non-vented filler cap.
