Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

Post by scimitargtc » Tue May 28, 2019 7:42 pm

79 6aauto nearly ready to roll,,, managed to get her started briefly yesterday again, revved her nuts off farted then died.. today to make things easier wifey helped me remove the bonnet and I noticed the carb mech was jammed half open,,, sorted that but noticed the small bore pipe between carb W washer/spacer and carb catches the throttle lever and is a loose push fit at each end. Got some pipe but external diameter is 13mm and it jams the throttle mech even worse.. not close to my manual or cd but this doesn’t seem correct? Got photos but failed to download from the cloud on my ipad....

Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

Not sure what you are referring to. W plate spigot takes a moulded pipe to the PCV in the rocker cover.

Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

Post by scimitargtc » Tue May 28, 2019 8:22 pm

Hi Andy, the pipe I’m on about is a thin piece about 100mm long connects to the W spacer and side of carb picture 1 shows the back F the carb where it attaches to the spacer and photo 2 is an abysmal shot of where the pipe fits the cab, the Pcv pipe is still to be fitted when I refine it or am I mixing the pcv pipe with something else

The 4mm small stub between the throttle quadrants goes to the vacuum motors in the air cleaner if fitted. Otherwise blank it. The PCV takeoff is at the opposite end to the quadrants and is a larger stub. The pipe in the side should be a 4mm OD and connects to the vacuum advance on the distributor.

I think you may be mistaking the 'tamper proof' housings for the volume screws for pipe stubs?

Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

Post by scimitargtc » Tue May 28, 2019 10:50 pm

Figured Andy’s comments had missed there is another small tube on the carb pushed the small bore tube back onto that and onto the side of the carb( no I hadn’t mistaken tamper proof screws for stubs) interesting comment re W spacer being the wrong wAy round, it was that way when I bought it in 1997, 2 engines later, 3 inlet manifolds and 2 W spacers and it’s the way I thought it should be,,, I need to find where I “carefully stored” the pcv pipe last year which had necessitated the Wspacer replacement in the first place as the stub had become brittle and snapped off ( at least I now have 2 spare spacers) well tomorrow is another day

Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

I think the short small bore pipe is the anti-stall device vacuum pipe?

Carb pipe from W spacer to carb

Post by Roger Pennington » Wed May 29, 2019 4:33 pm

There shouldn't be any pipes protruding below the throttle quadrants. The take-off for the air cleaner (if fitted) is above the quadrants, the anti-stall is on the side. The only pipe stub which normallly comes off the W plate is the one to the PCV valve in the rocker cover. This should be on the front.

My photo below shows the back of the carb. The aircleaner connection is on the left, capped-off with a black rubber cap as it is not used.

If that is a pipe stub below the quadrants, then that would suggest that Rebel is right, that probably your W plate is backwards.

Yup understand rebel. Just want to get her back on the road. Roger, your photo embarrasses me as to the cleanliness of your engine yes the capped off stub in your photo is what the small bore pipe as pushed onto and onto the side of the carb and it does indeed suggest W is 180 degrees out,, oh well that’s another weeks delay as I have the allow 10 times the amount of time a normal humane being would take,,, but I’ll take comfort that the forum continues to be supportive in the extreme
