One bank warmer than other

Post by Simon644g » Thu May 23, 2019 7:25 pm

Could anyone explain why when I stand at the back of my SE5 the Left exhaust is warm and the right cool. It runs ok with no obvious signs of missing. Am away to do a run to raise money for a local cancer charity in a couple of weeks so just getting her ready for the run and this is frustrating me.

Left bank is hotter because it's working harder because the tyre pressures are lower on that side

I would not be concerned it may be running a bit leaner on one side.

Is there really any point in posting issues when somebody tells me to check the tyre pressure.

I’ve no idea why tyre pressures can affect exhaust temperatures either. I can only assume Darryl has been on the sauce.

Could well be mixture is unbalanced across both banks - or a misfire on the right hand bank?

I’m with Mikey, get a temp gun.

Back to basics really so check compression, valve clearances, ignition and that there is nothing wrong with the W plate.

I have a car in at the moment where the exhaust gas is cooler on one bank. The mixture is definitely awry with one bank at 3% and the other will not adjust from 1.5% until I have got to the bottom of it, so I would say it is a mixture imbalance. ( Or tyre pressures?) ;-)

Yes very likely. I can hear this car whistling on the overrun, yet the brake cleaner test passes! Still investigating.
