SE5a rebuild/ rolling restoration - 2 questions

Post by Jpwill7675 » Sat Mar 30, 2019 9:12 pm

Hi- thanks for your advice so far whilst I get my SE5a (VUL445M) back on the road again. I have recently rebuilt the engine, improved the gearbox selection and reinstalled the engine/gearbox. Of course I had a few setbacks/learning experiences on the way. The engine now starts and runs really well. I did have a couple of isssues.

Firstly, the car has been laid up for 6 months after a shoulder operation. On restart, there were no oil or fuel leaks but there was water pxxsing into the footwell. I don't think the leak was from the metal pipe to hose connection. How do I identify the leak source? Do I need to remove the heater matrix? ( I have temporarily bypassed the heater)

Second question. There is a leak from the differential, I suspect the the pinion oil seal. I can see how to drain the diff but access to the refill plug seems to be obscured by another suspension (?) arm. How do I get unfettered access to the refill plug?

Thanks for your help,
Jim

Could be the heater valve? Behind the panel by your left knee.

Refill plug on the diff needs the watts linkage disconnecting on some diffs.

I chopped the end off a 1/2" extension and used an open ended spanner to undo the diff plug.
Easier than removing the Watts linkage arm.
