I'm looking for advice on changing from the manual choke to auto choke, I have the 38DGAS weber carb on the SE5a, does the carb have to be removed to fit it? The car is running very well its been idle for nearly a year and now running perfect after changing the rotor arm to an old original part new set of points and condenser and off she went. I would prefer the auto choke to the manual if il was relatively a straight forward operation.

You simply remove the manual gubbins (is it a genuine DGMS or a converted DGAS?) and fit the auto-choke and it’s arm to the choke plate spindle (assuming the new one comes with screws) and arm to the throttle linkage. You also need to cut the water pipe that goes along the rocker cover from the stat bypass to the heater and plumb in the autochoke.

Yep, and both bellcranks and linkages. The autochoke bolts on using the same mounting points.

You will have to return the system plumbing to original layout for a auto choke and add the new carb to the water ways. I did the opposite got rid of the auto choke and fitted a manual one as we are close to a dual carriageway and the auto choke stayed on too long for my liking.
