Because this is very different from my old coupe, I was wondering whether there should be a steel plate bolted to the area where the servo, expansion tank and washer bottle fit in my SE5. The one I have is rusting badly and needs attention and will probably be replaced with stainless. it runs the whole length of the 'shelf' and no doubt incorporates the body mounting reinforcement.
Cheers

No there shouldn’t be any steel bolted in - do you have a pic?

Yes - it’s a spreader plate as those bolts hold the body to the chassis.

Thanks Phil, so it's different to the coupe - or at least mine as I remember.philhoward wrote: ↑Sat Nov 17, 2018 5:53 pmYes - it’s a spreader plate as those bolts hold the body to the chassis.

Shouldn’t run the whole length of the shelf though - 5” x 3” at a guess?

I don't think it does Jim, it seems to stop where the expansion bottle is, but goes right under the servo, so is longer than 5". My guess is that it has suffered from brake fluid derived paint remover.

yes I made the body support plate myself from Stainless steel, the servo support bracket was already there I've just cleaned it up, I think the original would have been bolted to the side of the inner wing as there were 4 holes there not being used.

Oh yes not the ones in the chassis , I didn’t have the cross brace here , I’m talking about the holes just visible in the red paint near the servoTerry H wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 6:31 pmAre they not for the cross brace between the suspension uprights.there were 4 holes there not being used.

Got them on mine too, I suspect they were for the original servo bracket but have no evidence of that.

Spot on Brian. They're the mounting for the original Girling Mk2a servo. I still have it fitted on my Coupe, rebuilt of course.b.c.flat hat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 7:53 pmGot them on mine too, I suspect they were for the original servo bracket but have no evidence of that.

SE4B Coupe - rebuilt on brand-new chassis.
