I have replaced my side lights and h/lights with LEDs.
The most noticeable differences are :
A big improvement on the tail/brake light. Always rather dull on Scimitars.
Reverse light brighter.
Instant response : Turning on and main beam flash is startlingly immediate.
Lower power drain.
As effective as my Cibies.
Colour : Cold white, I'm getting used to this.
It is even more important to be sure LED headlights are set at the correct height, otherwise they are dazzling for oncoming traffic as you are bound to have experienced with other modern vehicles with poorly adjusted lights.
The legality is a technical issue (as far as I know) base on the rating of the bulbs, not the light output. They are significantly below the specified rating because LEDS use so much less power.
I cannot recommend their use legally but without the requirement of an MOT for 40 year olds and the mere technicality of the rating, I don't imagine there'll to be a problem.
