Air filter won't fit?

Post by Gillsfan » Sat Jul 21, 2018 9:36 am

Pictured below is what I thought was an original air filter. I got it, I think with a job lot of scimitar spares I bought several years ago. I was planning to shot blast and paint it before fitting it (I've already bought the filter). I was curious about the the summer setting and where to duct the air from. So I trial fitted it and it doesnt fit, the tip fouls the engine bay shelf  so my questions are
1. Is it just a SE5 thing because they orginally had Webber 40 DFAVs fitted?
2. Does anyone have one that'll fit they would like to swap?
3. Opinions on me shortening the tip so that it fits?
4. Where should I duct the air from for the summer setting

Air filter won't fit?

Post by philhoward » Sat Jul 21, 2018 9:40 am

Yes, it’s an original vs DGAS thing. I have not found out recently that the 5a underbonnet moulding is slightly different to clear the snorkel. If you see the filter housing for a 40 it’s different.

Personally, I’d cut the snorkel short and fit a bit of hose to pick cool(er) air from somewhere lower.
