Wiper Motor Ref nr query

Post by scimrick » Tue Mar 20, 2018 5:30 pm

Am having intermittent stickiness of wiper arms not reseating at lower edge of screen and being sluggish on a wet screen despite new blades. I've trawled through recent posts which give great guidance; as I intend to check and refurb/regrease as recent comments and advice. I have a replacement brush set, and probably will need the self-parking switch cleaning/replacing.
However, before I do the work I understood that the 14W ref on the motor casing was for Front wipers, and the 16W ref was for Rear wipers. If that's correct, then my GTC currently has a 16W motor running the front wipers.
Q1 - should GTC wiper be the 14W type?
Q2 - is the only difference between the 2 types the wheel/gear that defines the amount of arc the wipers go through? If so I assume can be "easily" swapped between motors.
Any answers that help to select a route to correct the fault will be welcome!

I thought the GTC had a 16W front?

I'd be looking at your wheel boxes as well, when they get worn lots of slack result, you can remove bundy, turn spindles 180 degrees and reinsert bundy which then runs on the unused side of the wheels

SE4c rebuilding. SE5a similar it seems!

Jim & Phil - thanks for confirming it should be the 16W ref as fitted.

Mike - replaced wheel boxes & rack about 2 years ago due to judder & repositioned wiper jets to bonnet, wiper motor greased up & ok at that time. Didn't check wiper motor ref then, assumed it was the original. Fun job accessing wheel boxes but easier when I enlarged access holes!

The 14w switch and brush plate are different from the 16w. Plenty on the web about rebuilding a 16w. Can even be rewound if required.
