Does anybody know if you can get a quick steering rack for a SE5?

Quicker if you fit EPAS.

I've never heard of a quick rack - Mark (gtcse8) is the man to ask, or John Louch (who competes a GTE)
Is it for competition, or an attempt to lighten the steering?

A quick rack would have the opposite effect?

I've heard of a heavily modified 6a being fitted with a PAS rack without the PAS to make turning the wheels quicker on the track.

It is for track use to reduce the number of turns lock to lock.
I will have a look at the 6a rack to see if the number of turns lock to lock is less.
They are dead easy to pick up for Fords so I was hoping the rack from the 5 might be the same as a Ford, doesn't look like it though.

6a rack won't fit a 5.

I'd be having a chat with Mark Wilson (gtcse8 on here) - what he doesn't know about these racks isn't worth knowing. If you can fit a quick rack to one, he'll know how and be able to do it pretty reasonably too.

Be very careful with changing the rack as it is very easy to get serious bump steer. The compie boys are the ones to talk to. Trevor Short has one is his Coupe.

Trevor had his from Iain Daniels Motorsport in Appleby Magna, Leics

I think Iain Daniels fits converted TR6 quick racks, when I looked into it a few years ago
I've got a quick rack on mine, made using the standard rack and a pinion with more teeth from a different quick rack, and some machining as the angle was slightly different.
This gave 2.4 turns lock to lock and helps a lot on tight corners

The SE5 rack is already Quick with 3.5 turns lock to lock, or slightly different if the Trunnion stops have been removed, but the Trunnion bolt may rub on the discs.
I do have a few Specials that are 4.25 or 4.5 turns that will make the steering much lighter.
These are a direct replacement and just have different internals fitted.

hi chaps, anyone had experience of fitting rack stops ? my trunnions touch the inner brake disc face on full lock, rebuilding the trunnions and have bought a kit with rack stops provided. any advice appreciated. cheers

do you mean the original type with eccentric stops? If so, loosen the attachment bolt (20) and rotate the stop (19) until it restricts the movement adequately.
