Rear lights bulb replacement se5a

Post by pdedsddd » Tue Jun 30, 2020 9:49 pm

Evening all...... Don't laugh. Looking through the reliant manual at replacing bulbs in rear lights on my se5a 1972,shows 2 screws to remove rear lenses for access...... Just went to have a look & there are no screws on the outside of my lenses ? So I'm guessing they screw from the inside? Anyone know what type of fixings hold these in & does it mean removing the whole light or will the lense just release? Also are they just off the shelf bulbs?
Many thanks PD

The lens do not come off to change the bulb they are in seperate bulb holders that just pull out the back of the unit, access through the rubber flaps behind the rear cover 6 screws to remove that ..normal bulbs

Hi, to access the bulb holders yer leave the outside lenses alone, remove the trim across the inside of the rear cargo space which reveals access holes to all bulb holders. They're sprung loaded into the metal rear lamp units so wriggle them out to get to the bulbs. For LED replacements have a look on Paul Goffs site. Best o' luck, B.

Nuts size that fix lenses to body if you need to remove them are 2BA I think, but best not if you don't have to :w

EDIT: I'm talking utter claptrap - the 2BA screws hold the lens together - the two screws/bolts referred to are captive in the plastic/aluminium light body, so undo from inside.

The post was referring to a 72 model which likely had the lamp without the reverse light incorporated.
Therefore there are 2 screws that hold the lens on so you could change the bulbs from the outside I should think

The SE5 has 4 screws in each light which is why I wondered which manual it was.

pdedsddd has a SE5a model - manual refers to a SE5?

EDIT: I'm still talking utter claptrap, the manual must be an SE5a - ignore this :?

it's the reliant manual...... But yes ,I think it was referring to the se5. But you can see the ends of a fixing just under the surface coming from the back of light. Sorted now although they don,t seem very bright in day light?
Many thanks Pd

Does anyone know where abouts the earthing point is for the rear lights ..... Seem a bit dull & indicators seem slow, not really even going out between flashes.
Cheers all of you for your replies men, much appreciated.

Earth point is the small outrigger by the rear LH lights. The problem is usually the earth path between the bulbs, holders and light units.
