551 A race oddity

I had previously made an aluminium corner piece for the passenger door, where the exhaust comes through. However, last Sunday, I decided to re-make it all; I decided it was too ugly, too heavy & too complicated. I’ve made a simple plate, and they’ll be some heat shield material attached to the back ...

I like how the bottle chain keeps the welder perfectly horizontal!

Or is that just on Android?

CH4: mission ignition

When I started my engineering apprenticeship, we were shown photos of people who'd "de-gloved" their fingers after catching rings in something. The photo's were nicely staged, with the boney finger, with the ring above it and the neatly removed skin above the ring. The image has stuck with me! I gue...

The Doctors Coupe - SRE 353G

The clock in my coupe has been stuck on 2 o'clock since I bought the car, and I believe for many years. 20190331_120025.jpg But as we've changed from GMT to BST this morning, I've made a mental note that it's now stuck at 2 o'clock BST; just to avoid any potential confusion. Here's the resultant cha...

I clearly hadn't looked at the front section Steve has been mentioning, as it's a bigger gap than I thought. I think I can deal with it to ensure a decent seal though. I've got to decided where & how to mount the door mirrors, so the extra sealing bit may possibly double up for the mirror mount. I n...

What is the weight now?
777kg wet, 55% front bias. Not too bad considering how much stuff we added when we turbo’d it.
Intersting , thanks. I think mine will be heavier than that. I should find out soon enough.

We might be at cross purposes. When you said door inner, I was thinking of the inner most part of the door, which contacts the seal. I think you might mean the window being flush to the GRP along the waist line? Either way the seal contact is generally good, but marginal at the transition point from...

The ply isn't following the inside of the door where it contacts the seal, there's a step at the waist line.

There is a small rat-hole, but the contact to the seal is generally good.

I've got a good contact to the seal all the way round. I am trying to keep water out, so I have checked the seal contact as I went.

There is a step between the window & the door interior, which is replicated in the step from the hardtop to the tub.

A nice delicate touch there Paul, you can hardly see what you cut out!

I'm sure it will look seamless once the metalwork is replaced.
