Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

It can be shifted in 1 & 2 but will not work when I engage (or try to) D. What drive I have is very jerky. Reverse was working sort of, when I put it in the garage. As for taking it apart, that is a dark art and not for me. I would rather have the whole box done. Ive done manual gearboxes in the pas...

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

Disaster.. After getting an MOT and looking forward to driving her in what remains of the good weather, the gearbox has decided to pack up. Not completely but wont change gear. Ive checked the oil level-ok and the vacuum pipe- also ok. So it only leaves the option of dropping the box and getting a r...

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

Finally she now has an MOT. Just need to get home and put her in the garage.....they have started a programme of road re-surfacing here. Tar and chippings everywhere. Just a few more jobs to do, but they can wait. Will be nice to drive her in the sun with the roof down. Its been 2 years since that l...

Just another thought. Did you overhaul your calipers after you fitted your new discs? If that was the case it could be the sticking caliper getting hot on the disc may have caused it to buckle slightly with heat soak . You say a lot of motorway use. Plenty of chance to get hot and then stopping , a ...

Have you checked your discs are not buckled? It doesnt take much to feel the effect. You stated you have a variation in disc thickness. By how much do they vary? You can also check that the disc is seated correctly on the hub ie no crap behind them ( the 2 mating faces) .

I would. But beware they are an arrogant lot. Didnt want to know when I complained. Although it had had only just been fitted they said its too bad as I had bought more than 12 months earlier.

Ians GTC rebuild. Now she runs, and stops.

After getting nowhere with the rebuilt and machined carb I went back over what I had done previously. Still believing it was an air leak causing the problem, I removed the inlet manifold and fitted a new gasket. Reset static timing and checked valve clearances. No difference at all . Out of shere de...

Replacement front seats

I fitted MGB GT seats to Barbaras SS1by modifying the seat frames to fit the existing seat runners. That way it means the original seats can go back without any problems.Oh yes the dimensions of the MG seats are the same as my seats in the GTC.

GTC door tongue

The tongue you refer to is to help door alignment .Dont think it matters where it lines up,but the rattle you can hear may be due to the sprung loaded reciever on the B pillar not having any fresh grease in it and what in there has dried out. Had the same problem. Check it is not stuck. I removed mi...

Ians GTC rebuild. Now she runs, and stops.

After a break for getting Barbaras SS1 ready for Silverstone the 'C' kinda took a back seat. Further examination revealed a couple of potential causes. The power valve diaphram looked a bit iffy and when I put the carb on the surface table it revealed a bow of .3mm in the base. No way the gaskets wo...

Rich running

Ive just used the airline to ensure the passages are clear. No sign of any blockages. Emulsion tubes look clear.Ive just placed the carb body on the surface table and I have a .3mm bow in the base. I am presuming that if air is getting in there ( gasket not adequate to seal this size of gap) and I a...
