Re: Steve's 1977 6a

It warmed up a few hours ago to 19 centigrade and 60% humidity so I went for it!! My first experience spraying, its quite tricky. I put a coat of barcoat on the car but I think it went on a bit thick, I can no longer see the old paint underneath. Is that too thick for barcoat? All in all it was fun...

Re: 'Straight 6' coupe at H & H, Buxton

It sold at the auction for £5500...sadly I never managed to get there so cannot report on it's true condition. Not a good result for the seller, surely he could have sold it easily at that price and not,of course, then having to pay commission.

Agreed, doesn't show whoever did this as the brightest,doesit?...so buyer would need to budget for a new bumper as well.

Re: 'Straight 6' coupe at H & H, Buxton

I'll be at the auction on Wednesday so will report back later...as usual it's a case of buyer beware,IIRC from previous pics the interior was "original",i.e. tired and in need of a retrim, and it was stated that the o/d didn't work.

Re: White Sabre 6 A30

Slight change of topic but last Saturday about 4pm I saw a red Sabre 6 on the outskirts of Worksop (Notts). ...which reminds me, some months ago I sent an email to the Sabre Registrar enquiring about a friend who owned a red Sabre 6 years ago who I have lost touch with, but received no reply.Perhaps...

So the plural of "forum" is "fora"...are you sure? We are using 21st century English here, not 1st century Latin.

Re: This doesn't look too good!!

Very strong originally, but weakened by the passage of time, like a Scimitar's outriggers... :) Not if they're galvanised, as many SS1s are (including mine :D ) - and don't forget it was SS1s specifically that I was refering to. Also, is the Elan jacking point section actually joined to the rest of t...

Re: This doesn't look too good!!

The Elan has strong steel reinforcement at the bottom of the cill to create the official jacking points, you can (or could) jack up anywhere along this to raise the front, rear, or all of one side of the car.Very strong originally, but weakened by the passage of time, like a Scimitar's outriggers... :)

Re: White SS1 M6 J17

Matt, Elan prices have doubled in the last five years.I owned an Elan a long time ago and in ' 88 I bought a new SS1 1600 which I had for a couple of years. The price range for a good Elan now (condition 1 to concours)is £15k to £25k.IMHO the price range on a similar basis for a SS1/Sabre (1800 ti) S...

Re: White SS1 M6 J17

The red Elan in the photo is a S3 or S4 drop head (not a +2).Such an Elan could be worth £20k,prices have risen a lot in the last few years. An SS1 turbo should compare well in driving with an Elan, but it is of course a 20 year newer design.I agree SS1's should be worth a lot more than they are, but ...

Re: MOT Advisories

Regarding the oil leak from the rocker covers,I can quite understand this being an "advisory"...to put it another way,if the rc gaskets had failed completely and oil was pissing onto the exhaust manifolds I would fully expect this to be a fail as a serious fire hazard.

Re: blue GTE

This early Bristol which comes fairly regularly to the Goodwood Breakfast Club is a good example of patina  Patina.jpg Returning to the subject, when I first started attending Club events in the early '80s there was an Se6a which used to attend, which was said to be ex-HRH. It was blue (I ...
