Re: Old Reliant dealer list?

There was a Scimitar dealership in Market Drayton - Reg George . Their showroom was originally a cinema, now would you believe a Wetherspoons called the Hippodrome. They were also a Volvo dealership. I think they became Scimitar dealers around the time of the Se6 launch, as did Swifts in Longton Sto...

Re: Where's my brake fluid going?

It could be your brake servo. This type of seal failure draws brake fluid into the inlet manifold and it is burnt off usually causing visible smoke.

Re: Silver SE6

Hi
if this is the one outside a cottage on A51 by Aston cross roads (near Woore) it is a Middlebridge, locally registered, and in use. Never actually met the owner.

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

Update - collected my starter from the reconditioners today. They tested and demonstrated that it worked before I paid. A fault in the solenoid was deemed to be the problem. I have now refitted it and all is well. I have fabricated a heatshield for the starter and the solenoid. The car appears to st...

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

I am collecting my overhauled starter motor in the morning. According to the expert the overhaul was straightforward. I hope it is cured ---tomorrow will tell. I had firmly given up chasing a replacement from part numbers. Physically placing the existing against a potential replacement appears to be...

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

Sorry didn't mean it like that I was trying to highlight a deciding point as to whether an alternative will fit. I think its time for me to go and lie down in a dark room for a while.
This must be starter motor overload.

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

Clearance issue - looking at the motor with the two mounting holes facing away from the block and the single mounting hole facing the block, the solenoid must be on the top, if its on the side it will foul the exhaust manifold, HOWEVER THE MAIN CLEARANCE ISSUE IS THE DIAMETER OF THE MOTOR. THE ORIGI...

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

Just re read Jims post with dimensions of LRS 5170 which shows a motor diameter of 91.5mm, I have just measured my starter and it is 80mm diameter. These so called equivalents may not affect the Sierra but they are not tolerated on the Sabre K

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

Just spoken to a helpful parts supplier in Walsall (link to their ebay site on this thread) he has cross referenced the Valeo part number with a defunct Quinton Hazell number and comes back to LRS 00543 which is the Delco Remy DRS 5170 - and that was the one with a larger motor body that will not fi...

Re: K series starter motor What's it off?

I will take a pic tomorrow if I get the chance, basically it is an adaptor machined from a billet of alloy. The section facing the starter motor is machined to fit the end of the starter motor (identical to that in Peters picture). It has three bolt holes for the motor securing bolts. BAD NEWS - I h...
