6a Front Suspension - back to standard height?!

Will do - off to the local Noggin now!

No worries Dennis, I’m getting used to the heartache by now, all part of the Scimitar experience! :D

The results are in! IMG_4398.jpg He checked it over, measured the Castor and re-adjusted the Toe which had already moved a bit from everything bedding in. Castor is obviously a couple of degrees off but he said in his opinion he wouldn't even bother adjusting it, at least not yet. If I did try to th...

I think the yellow figures indicate an acceptable +/- tolerance around the optimum figure. He also said that in particular the N/S wheels are often adjusted slightly differently to O/S to accommodate the camber of typical roads etc.

Hopefully these pics will clear up trunnion suspicion. Here are the new ones - if you think of the trunnion as two pieces put together i.e. the threaded tube which connects to the vert link and the rounded section which carries the trunnion bolt, then here you can see the whole of the rounded sectio...

Trunnions are from Graham Walker. They appear to be the correct angled type, and are certainly completely different in angle to the ones I took off. I think the picture of the results on the screen is misleading; The figure for Castor shown on the screen in the pic is not what was actually measured,...

6a Front Suspension - back to standard height?!

Ahem......sorry to burst bubble a bit.... Tut, and there I was foolishly starting to research and plan the next job on the list! I hadn't spotted the CastOr angle on the screen, and assumed (must stop doing that..) that he had loaded up the correct specs into the machine. Perhaps he loaded up the s...

You seem to have a PAS rack with non PAS trunnions and non PAS caster settings? When I bought the car it had: PAS Rack Manual Trunnions Reversed Top Wishbones Upside down Lower Wishbones Lowered ride height on adjustable dampers. Now it has: PAS rack PAS Trunnions Standard orientation Top wishbones...

Good job :D I don’t understand why the PO would have fitted 1/2” shims - PAS/non PAS doesn’t affect the camber that much  Hi Jim, I’m not sure either but he (Badger) did post on here about it some years back. Maybe lowering it by 50-60mm on shortened dampers causes the camber to change? Eith...

I phoned the Wheel Alignment Centre in Southampton this morning and booked it in for 3pm this afternoon. What a great company. They do a lot of work on classics and sports cars and have done plenty of Scimitars. I thoroughly reccommend them. Th process was quick and pain free, with a nice cup of fil...

Next stop, Anti-roll bar bushes. A bugger to get to the bolts with the bumper in place. Luckily could just get a small 1/4' ratchet with a small 11mm socket on. Only the bottom bolt had to come out fully, the top one comes out just enough that you can swing the bracket around to get the bush out. It...

Now to do it all again on the other side... IMG_4206.jpg IMG_4207.jpg IMG_4209.jpg IMG_4210.jpg IMG_4214.jpg And now to take it all off again. My old trunnions had a steering lockstep fitted which was basically a bolt and some washers. The new trunnions didn't have a hole drilled for such a bolt but...

I'm very lucky to be able to use a friends garage for a few months to do all this, otherwise it would be out on the street.... IMG_4013.jpg Damper & Vert link in, about to attempt the trunnion. Everything separated and ready to start re-assembling. IMG_3951.jpg IMG_3950.jpg Fitting new upper ball joints from GW. On both sides the grease nipples were rubbish and basically fell out before the grease gun could even get close. They were made of the cheapest metal and the threads were useless. ...
