battery cut off relay

Be an idea on a car that's used infrequently to stop any battery drain issues & easier than having to lift the bonnet to use a rally type switch. It doesn't make any difference if it's in the battery negative lead. Any chance of a link to the ebay seller you used please? Don't operate the switch whi...

Unplug the coil lead from the dizzy cap. Holding it in something suitably insulated put the end a few mm above a good earthing point - such as the block. Get someone to turn the engine over. You should see good sparks jumping from the lead to the block. If you get a good spark take the dizzy cap off...

A few questions about SE5

Mills pins. Never heard of them before. Every days a school day! That looks like some sort of kit with non-standard Mills pins adapted for the purpose? The drill & use a screw & sealant was in one if the Slices that I bought as a 'bumper bundle' when I joined which was in the very early 80s. Sold th...

Don't overtighten the hub nut. If you do that to a taper roller bearing it will get very hot very quickly & self destruct. Guess how I know - and it was front left on my SE5 & full lift recovery. Had a hell of a job getting the inner race off the stub axle. Always done them by tightening the hub nut...

A few questions about SE5

Is the pinning of the carb inlet pipe still recommended if of the type that's just pushed in (IIRC 40DFAV?) One of the first things I did on my 1970 SE5 as recommended in Slice - & a good job it was too as it wasn't exactly tight! No8 self tapper & hylomar seems to ring a bell but it was 35 odd year...

The W terminal is a feed to a rev counter on some diesel vehicles.
And on many Land Rovers/Range Rovers which also use the A127 with stud terminals. On those B+ is the main feed to battery & D+ is the ignition warning light.

Red 1970 SE5 at H&H, Buxton, tomorrow...

Late to the party but I owned a brown SE5 manual O/D with that reg in the early 80s. That looks a right mess & absolutely nothing like mine internally or externally. I've always regretted selling it & often considered looking for it to buy it back but not whatever that is. I asked on here some time ...

Re: Carpet nightmare!

I know it's too late for the OP, but I bought carpet off the roll from Coverdale, so I could make the pieces to my own shape. 6 metres carpet, 6 metres green felt, P&P came to £185. I seem to remember this was way better value than a pre-cut carpet set. Sorry to rub salt in the wound, but hopefully...
