What cars did you see today? (Non-Scimitar)

No photos sadly, but a very rare sight driving down Tewkesbury High Street this afternoon. A plastic bodied three wheeler, not one of Tamworth's finest, nor from Bond or any one like that. Strictly I guess it wasn't a car either, a little Sinclair C5. In retrospect who thought they were a good idea?

Disappearing Power!!! SS1

I had similar intermittent loss of power with my 1600 last year. After changing the coil and amplifier thing on the dizzy problem still there. Someone on here suggested it might be down to water in the fuel tank. Like you I was a bit apprehensive about removing the tank. I tried a bottle of this in ...

Top Down

Just back from my first hood down drive of the year. I'm sure some of you hardy people had yours down weeks ago, but this morning was the first day that tempted me. Had a really nice 70 mile round trip up to Cirencester and back, bit chilly on top of the Cotswolds but lovely sunshine most of the way...

Tyres

Before you fit new tyres clean the complete inside of the wheels ( where the tyres fit ) and paint them with a undercoat and then finish with such as Hammerite smooth. I have 195x65x14 Khumo's on my 7" Wolfs for the summer use as 14" tyres are hard to find now and they are good value for money. For...

Old Rosie

To round this one off. opened the box a few days ago .... very nice.
In Morrisons again this morning, they still had a few boxes left, so I bought another.
Even more of a bargain today, down to £10.

Old Rosie

I just got back from the weekly food shop at Morrisons in Tewkesbury. They have Westons Old Rosie cider on offer at £13 for a 10 litre " box ", a very good price I think. I don't know how widely the offer is available, but if you like a drop of cider ( and Old Rosie is very nice, 7.2%, fairly still ...

SS1 1600 Spark Plugs

Interestingly, to follow-up a little on this, I was in Halfords today (failing to buy wiper blades for the Yellow Peril) and I was having a general scout around, as one does  , and I noticed that they only seemed to have Bosch plugs, and not a very big selection. I don't know if the small num...

Fuel tank venting

I have complete galvanised neck, locking cap and key from a late model sabre 10 quid plus post, can put up pics tonight Thanks for the offer. At the moment its just at the " I wonder why it does that " stage and not causing any problems ( fingers etc crossed ), so I'll leave well alone, but keep an...

Fuel tank venting

Hi Roger I have always assumed my tank was vented. I had the boot liner out a couple of years ago to change the rubber petrol lines, but I can't remember if there was a vent or not. There is a small bore line teed into the filler pipe though, just below the filler cap, visible when the cap is off. I...

Fuel tank venting

A light frost last night, now a clear sunny morning. My 1600 is parked in the sunshine, as I walked past it just now I noticed " bubbles " from the key hole in the filler cap. Obviously the tank is warming in the sun, air is expanding and gently bubbling out of the keyhole. I thought the tank had a ...

Rear Brakes

I always clean up the mechanism whenever I have the drums off, and then apply a very light smear of Copperslip to the moving parts.

Coolant bleed fitting

A few months ago I had problems bleeding my 1600 CVH ( replacement engine with no head bleed plug ) I was going to buy something like this to fit https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/black-nylon-16mm-joiner-with-bleed but managed to bleed the system in the end so never got around to it. Might be w...

Radiator removal

Radiator changed and back on the road. I had a bit of a battle refitting the rollbar clamps ( twice unfortunately, first time I did them before fitting the bottom hose, then found I could not get at the Jubilee clip   so had to take them off again   ) but otherwise no great p...
