Joe's 1972 GTE - Post Paint Refitting

Unbelievable that they would even consider giving you the car back in that state. We always give the cars a really good clean before the customer gets it back, if only to show off the new paintwork to its best.

If you do galvanise, the only paint that will hang on to it properly is epoxy primer. If you allow it to weather, POR-15 is quite good, but is UV sensitive and so requires a topcoat.

Only XJS mirrors are the right profile to suit. Switch can come from a Ford Granada Mk3 onwards, plus other Fords of a similar age or a Citroen of around 2000. The switch is fitted below the radio in an SE6A. Weatherstrips in stock here: http://ajlelectronics.co.uk/epages/832315.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=6...

Insurance again!

I was entirely satisfied with the level of service I had from RH when faced with a potential write off claim. They found a way to avoid it (writing it off) and make a decent settlement. Claims adjuster was a nice and totally professional chap who didn't try any of the tricks I had been warned to wat...

Paint and primer advice.

Real Epoxy primer is two component. Although it *can be done in an aerosol, it is wasteful and expensive to do it. You can buy a spraygun extremely cheaply and gives you far more control.

*2K Isocyanate paints are avaiable for instance.

MB23 had an Alpine 7280LS for which I can't find a connection wiring diagram. It looks like it may be fairly standard though.

All race schools teach brakes are for slowing the car, not the 'box.
Well naturally. A racing car needs to be slowed very quickly, whereas in normal driving, the vehicle should be slowed more gradually, changing down into an appropriate gear as you go. Horses for courses.

Brake pedal bringing on brake light switch

Greetings Dot, brake pads are cheaper than gearbox overhauls. The police haven't used gearbox braking in over thirty years. Best Regards. Having the vehicle under control, in the correct gear is far safer and smoother than relying on the brakes. I have yet to find a gearbox that has been worn out b...

Amazing thanks for the advice, what grit would you use? Start CAREFULLY with 120 grit, only going to 80 if you really have to. Just be aware that you can do a lot of damage with a D/A if you are not used to it. After all the paint is off and before doing any repair work, clean what is left thorough...

It depends on what the state is of the current paint. If reasonable, then D/A is the obvious choice for the larger areas and hand sanding for everywhere else. Try to take it down to remove the first coat of factory applied filler/primer, this is where the microblistering generally starts. Then use L...

Try a hotwire. My bet is failing contacts in the ignition switch. Something often seen before and gives these symptoms.
