6a turns over, fires up and stops when key is let go

The whole point of hotwiring is to bypass all the components in that circuit. It narrows down the fault. Just do it and see what happens. It is a standard step in ignition fault finding.

Test by hotwiring the car, but remember that you need to disconnect it again before the engine will stop.

GTC bad pinking and knocking

Leaving the rear port open WILL give the symptoms you describe. Idle / progression jets are in operation until well over 2000 RPM before it i...

Se6a project

How much of a project do you want? I have a couple of cars, a 77 auto which is roadworthy and an 82 6b pudding stirrer, fully galvanised which will be soon. The auto has a low revs vibration, suspicion falls on the flex plate. It has had a lot of work, inc all core plugs.

240 is too fine for first epoxy coats. You should be at 120 grit dry, then 320 grit before the sealer coats, after repairs.

Lucas instrument voltage stabilizer 12V to 10V - replacement of old thermal with new electronic solid state regulator

Here’s another that had just arrived for rebuilding. Chocolate rivets holding the terminals and a burnt out SMD with no heatsinking. It looks like it has no foldback protection either, that shouldn’t happen even with a dead short on the output. EAB225D8-4E20-42A3-BE22-C0CB0E0E448A.jpeg C5E8D394-D5F9...

Torque converter refitting, advice please

Not recommended, mandated!

Borg Warner 35 and all C3 with black dipstick require AQF which is a mineral formulation also known as Type F.

Later C3 with red dipstick (less common) are Dexron compatible 'boxes. The majority of A4LD are also Dexron type.

Torque converter refitting, advice please

No you don't *have* to fill it with fluid. However, you will need to top up the gearbox again of course once it has filled. It is vital that you engage the oil pump correctly. Drop in the converter and rotate it until you feel it mesh and locate. When refitting the gearbox, the converter should rota...
