About fifty years ago I travelled 150 miles in this old timer, hadn't seen it since until a couple of weeks ago. It is powered by a three cylinder Perkins diesel.

Just found this on the web and it shows the other side of the plate and all it's components, there is mention that more than 3/4 inch inward movement of the shaft is the danger zone and hopefully it has not gone that far.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is going to be a journey into the unknown for me and I am dreading it.

Are there any bits or springs under pressure that can go flying around when I take the side plate off.

Had a couple of hours spare this afternoon and it was back on with the overalls and underneath to connect the three rods of the gearbox back onto the box only to find that the middle one ( no 12 in the components of side cover ) has moved inwards about 5mm making it almost impossible to get it back ...

Earlier today

Shortly after three this afternoon I spotted a little convoy of classics which included a Scimitar making it's way through Inverness and a few hours later heading again in the same direction, overnight stop I thought so later in the evening I took a look in at one of the hotels which was quite close...
