Good news. Another trip around the cul de sac today reveals that fixing the hand brake cables has indeed also fixed the CLicking Ticking noise (not to mention the dragging sound). A few other noises but I think that's just the brakes shoes bedding in. Since it was wet and easy to do I even did a lit...

Thanks for those. 68ohm should result in a current draw of 17mA or 2W according to my calculations. Sounds a bit high if anything? Not sure what the rating of the bulbs is - 0.5W maybe? I didn't understand the relay idea though? The main problem I have is I can't get the LEDs to screw in at least no...

Well my LEDs for the centre warning light cluster have arrived from www.classiccarleds.co.uk. A mix of +ve and -ve earth, according to the scheme earlier in this thread. Now to install them. I shall also have to work out the resistor needed to work the alternator. Probably needs to be soldered direc...

Thanks for the disclaimer!
It's up on ramps night now and I can see that the trailing cables could easily have been catching on the prop shaft UJ so here's hoping! I'll have to connect up the hand brake I guess!

Still need those PAS pump pics btw (see earlier in thread)

My speedo is not yet connected (at either end). Looks like I'll have to climb under and check for obvious problems like brake pipes catching the prop - I don't think so but possible Oh! I just had a thought I wonder how close my disconnected hand brake cables get to the prop? Here's hoping for an ea...

Thanks but definitely not engine related as it only happens when in motion. Perhaps I would better have described the noise as a Click rather than a Tick.
No sensation through the drive line though, just a noise.
What type of noise would a dodgy diff make in a straight line?

Still looking for Pics of the rear PAS pump mountings (SE6a, Essex possibly early - just like the one in the parts book earlier in this thread ) - but diagram unfortunately quite unclear on how the back of the pump is mounted Also does anyone think there is anything wrong with my ignition switch as ...

I still need photos of the rear mountings for a PAS pump on an SE6a (Essex) - but not those earlier on this thread but more similar to the parts book diagram that is also shown earlier on this thread. However another little foible has shown up as I reassemble the dashboard etc. When the car came to m...

Thanks for your investigations Roger and Scimjim. My car is '79 SE6a and has the original engine as far as I know, although the car came without power steering - this is a conversion. I have no idea of the car the parts came from. Having said that it does look like the one in the parts book drawing....

I havnt been here for a few days. Oldconn - wow I hope you did not dismantle the car just to get photos! There is no doubt that you bracket is different to mine though - min looks like the one in the parts book but your's doesn't - probably a different year. I also noticed your comment about moving ...

Thanks for those pics Oldconn. Yours is def different to mine. Actually if you look at the diagram Scimjim put up on the previous page, the upper diagram looks just like mine except that the pump has a round body. so Now I wonder if I have some kind of hybrid round pump/ rhomboid pump setup. The ans...

Does that pump have one or two fixing points?
Does anyone have a pic of the rear of a round body SE6a PAS pump? Does that have two fixing holes?

Although my pump only has one, I suppose an the pipe plumbing connection point could be used

It certainly seems to be the same shape pump as is shown for a 6B but I thought yours was an Essex?. The pump has never been fitted to this engine as I bought it with a power rack and a few other bits as a job lot but I never even saw the car The front bracket does seem to go onto the Essex timing c...

Looks like my Power Steering pump is a bit different, so I'm still struggling with this - epecially the rear bracket that I cant even tell which way around it is meant to be. Seems quite a bit different to the other pics
