Pleased to say my chassis no longer has rust!
Some holes where the rust used to be that I now need to fill in with something better than cardboard, but a step forward

Also two new side riggers fitted

PS. Oddly I thought I had already posted all this earlier today but it seems to have vanished......

Electric Power Steering? SE6

I just remeasured the Sierra rack and unfortunately I misread it by 10cm so probably no good @72cm between ball joints vs the Scimitar 82cm.

In the latest episode they have just started to use Toyota hydraulic rack with a Mercedes A class Electric pump. I'll definitely be watching the next episode

Electric Power Steering? SE6

Thanks. Do you know what the ratio of the original SE6 PAS rack is? Or indeed where to get one? Incidentally my latest investigation reveals that you can also get an Electric pump for a hydraulic rack at very low prices (later Ford Focus among others) which may well be a heck of alot easier than cut...

Electric Power Steering? SE6

Yes LHD Austin 1800 I had forgotten that - but I didnt know SE5 & 6 were different.
Unfortunately those old Austins are probably rarer than Scimitars now, let alone with LHD quick racks

As I mentioned Ford Sierra looks promising on SE6 so I will investigate further

Electric Power Steering? SE6

I just did a quick search around the garage for a possible alternative rack. The key points are I think that a) that the pinion must be 'under' unless you get an LHD alternative, since the rack is in front of the wheels b) the pinion needs to be at an angle c) the width between the ball joints (not ...

There's a pair of Capri 3.0 manifold on ebay and near me right now. What chance they'll fit an SE6?

Thanks for those. Galv does sound as 'interesting' as I thought. 450 deg also sounds hot enough to burn grease and paint, although I suppose they don't tend to like that.
Hard to decide....

Wow so you have serious experience in galve. I'm seriously considering that. Never having been involved in such things before, things I imagine could be an issue include both fully and partially closed box sections, distortion (howhot does it really get?) and galve thickness. Any info would be great...

You have some points there. I was just going to repair the obvious faults before blasting and unfortunately perhaps, the repair sections are pre galvanised. There may be other weldy bits later on too.
Sounds like you have tried powder coating? How well has that worked out?

I'm wondering about getting the chassis blasted and either galvanised or powder coated when I'm finished with the welding.
Any pitfalls or recommendations for me please?
Info on facilities close to Essex also welcome

Aha that could be it. I couldn't think of a reason for the hole to be there. Thanks
