SS1 MOT fail :(

It could be that I used thinner/short sockets so they got down the gap whereas thick ones would not. I'm not doubting that you managed it Peter but I tried every 17mm socket I could lay my hands on as well as a 17mm box spanner (which is just a tube of metal with a suitably sized hex pressed into o...

SS1 MOT fail :(

Hi all, the car is legal again for a year :) My friend & I spent Saturday removing & refitting (with a new bearing) the drivers side rear wheel bearing. We had to take the offside rear suspension apart in order to get to the bearing carrier/hub. No way could we get a 17mm socket (3/8" drive or other...

SS1 MOT fail :(

Thanks for the reply chaps & I'll definitely have a go with the 3/8" sockets/extension before removing the trailing arm :) Having said that I removed the inner wheel arch last night which gives me much more room & makes access to the trailing arm bolts much easier (in case I need to go down that par...

SS1 MOT fail :(

So new anti-roll bar links have been made & fitted - guess which is which: https://i.imgur.com/3RuTnYk.jpg The new rear wheel bearing has arrived so tonight I'm going to make a start on that - wish me luck as I think it involves removing the offside rear trailing arm, drive shaft etc - which means s...

SS1 MOT fail :(

So I took the SS1 in for its MOT last Tuesday & it failed on a number of things unfortunately: 1.) Both headlights were out of alignment. 2.) Both rear anti roll bar drop links were worn & showing excessive play. 3.) Offside arb drop link was loose. 4.) Offside rear wheel bearing worn. 5.) Slight fu...

SS1 (CVH) custom exhaust manifold/system wanted

This is, I suspect, a forlorn hope but does anyone have a custom exhaust manifold & system, in stainless steel preferably, for a CVH engined SS1 available? I'm getting fed up with the bodged (I like to think that it's a superior bodge) system in my Zetec engined SS1. I've refitted the standard CVH m...

SS1 with 1600 Zetec

NTDWM but but looks interesting for those wanting a Zetec engined SS1. Most of the hard work looks to be done but not sure I'd trust someone who thinks Webers (or Dell Orto's) are SU's! Having said that most of the hard work's been done it's a B reg car so beware chassis condition as this is before ...

Looks a nice zetec engined SS1 that - thanks for the link & I'm not surprised it sold. Hmmm R1 carbs .......????? :) Ther's an SS1 for sale on Ebay at the moment with a 2 litre Zetec running on bike carbs that looks interesting. Nothing to do with me though just looked ..... interesting  Sounds...

Couple of parts for a race/fast road car perhaps?

First up is a removable steering wheel boss. I bought this new a while ago - before I got the SS1 I think - but have never fitted it to any of my cars or even tried to fit it. There's no manufacturers name on it so not sure where I got it from (a Kit Car show back in the day probably). No idea if it...

SS1 TI for Sale

Nice :) Seems a good price for a low mileage car & I think that's the colour mine was originally before the previous owner burgundyised it - good luck with the sale :)

Old, new & older

I parked next to this BMW I3 this morning. My friend's had it on test over the weekend & likes it very much - he's taking it back to BMW tonight & I think he may be talking money with them. It's a nice car if not a little weird in that there's a total lack of engine noise. Standing outside the car y...

Anyone put a VTEC in an SS1?

Westfield fitted a v-tec into one of their 7 clones so it may be able to get one in an SS1 - as has been said it is a tall engine so a bonnet bulge may be needed - good luck to anyone who tried it :D

SS1 rear view mirror

Thanks Roger, I did wonder what the black patch was for. I'll investigate the stick-on mirrors - thanks again ☺
