5 series seat overhaul

Not many photos today unfortunately. Managed to get all of the foams and covers on and the tilt mechanisms all went back together without a problem. Need to do a little tensioning here and there but they look better than the photos :) 713D857F-09AF-426F-9993-876027E27ABE.jpeg 540045B9-577B-4DBB-9ACB...

8 Ball

Checked all of the lights and brakes etc, Taxed and MOTd it online last night (I will probably take it in for an MOT later in the year), fitted the seats today and drove it home tonight. Has a slight misfire, the digital temp gauge is a bit erratic, the fuel gauge wasn’t working (but seems fine now ...

All petrol now contains up to 5% ethanol as stipulated by the European fuel specification EN228 legislation. Lots of it is E10 now.

Bogging at 4000 rpm

Pretty sure that SP98 in France still has ethanol - only 5% as opposed to the 10% in SP95. The trouble is, there’s no international standard anymore.

They all suffer from being far too thin and very brittle on the base - the black plastic glued on the bottom is actually factory :D

If yours is better than that, it should be an easy repair before painting?

Growly gearbox

The only way of telling if it’s the later “uprated” box is to look at the front when it’s removed - the plate with the blue bolts shows it has the extra bearing.

Okay - one switch panel in VGC - some overspray (which I could remove but won’t bother if you’re going to paint it anyway :D ) and a small tear in the bottom right corner of the radio aperture (should be hidden by the radio surround?) 8 Ball

I left the box of seat bits at home today, so didn’t get them finished, so I fired up 8 Ball and got it outside in the daylight. Greased everything, checked axle and gearbox oils, cleaned it, swapped a tyre onto a different wheel and balanced all 4 wheels. Also played around with the rear bumper - t...

That's what I thought but have stripped it and cleaned all chambers and blown the jets thru. The result is exactly the same.
Have you got fuel flow when the engine stops?

If you have a gauze filter it will be at the Inlet to the carb. You will see a 19mm brass hex head plug under the inlet pipe to the carb.
That’s on a 40, not a 38DGAS.

What cars did you see today? (Non-Scimitar)

A tidy silver 80s Astra GTE on the Brockworth bypass this morning, then a nice white 1970 911 (no arches or tea trays :D ) on the Cirencester road.
