Ben's (an emotional quandry) 1975 SE5a

Tonight’s teaser: Here we have two selector forks. One has done about 30,000 miles in my spare gearbox. The other is out of the SE5a which has a habit of jumping out of gear. Do I, a) Swap the sideplates and hope for the best. b) Swap the gearboxes because the engine is out and it's a bit easier (t...

I have several but need to test them first - should be able to sort one out by the end of next week unless you’re in a massive rush?

If it wasn’t transferred into the DVLA electronic system, that’s another level of problems to sort out. This car’s on the system though.

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

you’ve assumed gravity feed Chris - is it a gravity feed, or is a fuel can just being used with the electric/standard pump and some of the original pipework? This is the problem with remote diagnosis. We need to remove as much as possible from the equation to nail down the primary source (fuel, elec...

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Jim, is there a trick to removing the carb top, the choke linkage at the carb is difficult to get at with carb still on the car, probably me but I do struggle working leaning over the engine. There’s a small C clip that you remove to disconnect the choke. If it’s too awkward, do as Phil suggests an...

Oilrag (great name), all static running has been with filler cap loose.

ran without any problem for 20 mins then started to hesitate, vacuum reading dropped to 15, fuel still OK to the carb, then the engine just petered out,
At this point did you take the top off the carb to check there was fuel in the float chamber?

Wiscombe Park 8 September 2018

Hopefully it’ll be dry in September :? On FB today: Hi everyone. We have good news and not so good news I'm afraid. Firstly, a huge thank you to all those who came down to the hill last Saturday, and helped with the great 'wake up Wiscombe' clean up day. Everyone did a tremendous job, and left the h...

This car? If you could find the keys and it started, you could technically drive it home after May 20 without breaking the law of not having an MOT (as you currently can with any car built before 1960). The number of C&U regs you’d be breaking would be massive - and you’d get a huge number of Darwi...

Bolts are often VERY tight and easy to round off with the wrong screwdriver bit. Seals on both tubes when you pull it off the MC. I’m afraid I sold my last spare last year.
