One of the problems with starting a thread in the wrong section (particularly technical) is that technical threads (that aren’t really technical) get archived in the members technical section.

I’d swap the box - overdrive, 5 speed (type 9 or RX8), whichever you prefer. Having said that, I had a 4 speed and it’s a really nice box with good top end ratios - is most of your mileage motorway? If not, will you really notice the loss of fifth?
Battery > fuse box > wiper motor > starter relay IIRC? I have a battery kill switch where the relay used to be. I don’t think the auto really needs a solenoid, you could fit a normal relay? If fitted, it’s on the inner wing just behind the battery. When Reliant changed the starters to pre-engaged type, they left the old solenoid on the wing (presumably to use up remaining stock of looms) and just ran a new wire to the starter.
