Corky's Scimitars (..and now an SS1 race car build)

No I’ve not tried the other one yet. I may just see if I can raise the deck a few mm.

Seems ages since it looked like this :- (click refresh if the photos don't appear). First proper day on this project. I think the pictures speak for themselves.... Next job is to pull the suspension apart. http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu291/stevecork/SabreTi/C34B6594-A4B8-4CFA-9D1F-9B3228C9C98...

Corky's Scimitars (..and now an SS1 race car build)

Still loads to do, but I got it to a point where it could be taken off SORN and out for a test drive. * 1ltr swirl pot installed, with a Facet Gold-Flo pump. * New wiring and relays for both fuel pumps installed. So less strain on the earth in the ECU. * Boot hinges removed and adjusted (in a vice w...

Corky's Scimitars (..and now an SS1 race car build)

A couple more jobs done. I finally managed to put the last pieces of bodywork on, sourced a couple of excellent door cards and fitted those. A package containing some handle inserts arrived from Jim today (cheers Jim), so I’ll finish off the door cards tomorrow. I need to sort out the boot hinges. T...

Mad prices of Fords

Just look up KGF classic cars. They regularly sell Capris and early Escorts for £20-£55k . Sabres and SE4s were once hunted down for their ZF gearboxes for Lotus owners. Many a GTE has been scrapped for its chassis for kit car builders. If there’s a shortage of Essex engines then............... On t...

Thanks Jim, I’m reasonably confident it’ll work out ok now.

I just hope my gamble pays off and the car is quicker than the Sabre was :hand:

Mock-up advanced to something I can test out. I’ve made a scoop from an old thin steel shelf. This is just test that I can get a good flow of cool air through the intercooler. Once fettled and proven, I’ll remake it in aluminium sheet. The mk2 version will have the sides of the scoop folded up to me...

Brake pads

I used EBC yellow stuff on the Sabre for the last two seasons (Metro turbo calipers and GW vented). Some people don't like them but they were excellent on the Sabre. I'm going to use them this year as well on the SS1 with Wilwoods and Mazda 626 vented discs. Edit:- should've said, good on the road a...

Yes, Uniroyal Rainsport 3. I would say they’re as good if not better than TR1 in the dry, but light years ahead in the wet.

What cars did you see today? (Non-Scimitar)

I love the Nova kit car. I’ve always wanted one.

A family member built one in the early 70’s. For a 6 year old car nut in a land of drab cars it was the best thing I’d ever laid eyes on
