Engine bay paint 2017

Had my thermocouple out only last week; Of course, mine's a straight six, but the temperatures on the rocker box were over 84.6C, and adjacent to the water pump it read 82C The engine bay is painted in blue hammerite (not by me, though). I've used Hycote VHT spray paint (Very High Temperature! up to...

Voltmeter, Middlebridge.

I rebuilt a voltmeter, they have two slots in the back so everything is adjustable! If it is the same type as mine it works on the "heating a bimetallic strip" principle, so the delay between voltages changing and the needle responding is about 30 seconds. I set mine up on the bench using a ...

to heat or not to heat

Yes, when I retired I acquired the Sabre Six to keep me busy tinkering and out of SWMBO's way.
Do you have a paint stripper heat gun? Might be less aggressive than a blowtorch.

Cologne engine 'running on'

If you still have your old plugs, try running on them; there have been reports of poor quality "Chinese copies" of spark plugs hitting the market, but I don't know if this is true.
Here's an interesting picture I found last night; might be useful to help with your diagnosis:

Cologne engine 'running on'

How old are the spark plugs? Also, are they a soft grade?
Quick and easy change to see if this might be the problem.

Spot the Scimitar - fun caption quiz

In the absence of any other contributor, and trying to keep in the SPIRIT of the caption competition, here's a picture for you to ponder: If you can't think of a caption, then how about identifying the three distilleries. Usual rules apply, no prizes, just a pat on the back for the best reply. Bottl...

Diff pinion oil seal

Hi Chris,
If I remember correctly, I'm sure I soaked the seal before installing, so it must have been a leather one.
Perhaps checking with QRG what they can supply will confirm.
As implied above, I must start keeping better records! :?

Diff pinion oil seal

Hi Tony, I thought I'd look through my files for the receipt for the seal, but it looks like I eventually bought it from QRG as they are the only receipts I can find. They sent me Part No. 207782R which apparently is for the early type and it didn't fit. The replacement part was 202463 which must ha...

Diff pinion oil seal

Hi Tony, Yes, I put a new seal in, but had to destroy the old one whilst removing it. Here's a picture of it: Oil_Seal_7ha.jpg (picture title is wrong - this is the old seal) It came from Autospin 0121 4721243 sales@autospin.co.uk I spoke to Debby; Part No. 28713762-d3 the size is OD 2.875", ID 1.37...

Track Day Advice

Plenty of good advice IMO. Also, it is a good idea to take the carpets out of the drivers side if this is easy. Also I'm sure they will have told you already to wear long-sleeved tops and long pants - no shorts. Many years ago when I used to go on track days, all the corners were "coned up", i.e con...
