Horror stories

Perhaps it's time to create a petition on the government, to halt this piece of ill-thought-out EU legislation (i.e. removing compulsory MOTs on older vehicles), although I expect there will be some Car owners who wouldn't support this. this is where it begins: https://petition.parliament.uk/...

Footman James Show Manchester

My mate tells me there was a Rochdale GT "barn find" up for sale at the show. Tempting.

To all Newcomers

Welcome to the Club.
Here's a picture from the meeting this week-end, 9 cars in all. I think some have the original Ford (Type E?) 4-speed box fitted, but I'll bow to superior knowledge when the Sabre/Sabra Registrar gets back on the forum.

Paper gaskets

Have a look at the website of a UK gasket maker: www.ramgaskets.com They have a number of technical papers to look at, describing gasket materials. I used their closed-cell 3mm neoprene to make a sump gasket, available on eBay, worked well for me. I used to use cardboard when I had a Matchless, stil...

Get the coffee brewed - starting at 2300 is greatly appreciated, so I'll go to bed early and stay offline.
Goo luck.

Future MOT changes

With most things, if the price goes up, we buy less, but with the new tax on car insurance we law-abiding citizens don't have a choice. The government has cottoned on to this and so the tax is planned to rise every year for the foreseeable future. The government didn't make any money out of MOTs so ...

Thanks Roger, but in Chrome, the "view image" option isn't available (at least, not on my laptop).

Headlight question?....

Not directly related to this thread, but a question for the GTE lighting experts: When going to main beam, do the dipped beams stay illuminated or do they extinguish? My foot-operated dip switch is a change-over (i.e. either/or). I'm working on my wiring at the moment, and with relays, anything is p...

oil seal

Bought my diff front seal from QRG (two attempts to get the right one) and I think "Oil Seal UK" carry lots of seals. I had to remove the old seal and measure it before I could select the right one to order. I also contacted Autospin, but I think they only make to order, and don't carry stocks. Hope...

Yep, upside down for me too. But, if I right-click on the picture and "open image in new tab" it appears OK.
As Roger says, this has been much discussed over the past few weeks.

Porsche storage

According to Henry Rasmussen's publications, the initial run of (supposedly fifty) 356/2 were indeed built with alloy bodies, but with steel floor, doors and bumpers. Semaphores were used on the earliest cars (in the front wings just forward of the A posts) but a contemporary photo of 356/1 below sh...

Electric fuel pump conversion advise please

Thanks, all, for the feedback.
The car came with two SU pumps wired via a 3 position switch (Off/One/Both) so I can easily (!) put a fuse and inertia switch in the feed to the switch.
I'll mount the inertia switch under the bonnet, probably.
