Another use for solder

Hi Alex, it's definitely very "old school" but works. I've used it to equalise weights on the axles of steam locos, cut 1" wide pieces of lead, put them in front of all the wheels and run the loco over them. Mic the thickness and adjust the spring hangers. Repeat until the thickness is about equal o...

Does Run Fast 351 Eventually!

Whipped the heads off(ain't it easy when it's on a bare chassis!) then the engine off the gearbox. I plan to put it in the RRBT to get us mobile again.

The Racy Red Bakery Truck.

So nearly a month later, I got a recommendation from my pal down the road for M J Engineering, had a chat and whipped both heads off and away for new guides, seat re-cutting etc. Got them back Saturday, finished all the cleaning on Tuesday, refitted everything late last night. This morning I set the...

Too old to drive?.......

This decision is very difficult to take. Our generation value freedom of independent travel very much and have a sceptical attitude to anybody younger having a judgmental opinion of our driving abilities. I've seen some frightening driving from inexperienced youngsters too so it's not just us that m...

Does Run Fast 351 Eventually!

The big shift has happened! I put the wooden wheels on the rear but couldn't get the right angle for the chassis when they were on the front so I left them off and landed it on the discs. I put a beam across the body in front of the suspension towers and jiggled one on top of the rear chassis. I sti...

Does Run Fast 351 Eventually!

Aha! I have thunked ahea------------d! Ive made a wooden dolly on castors and a spare chassis sits on it ready to accept the body shell. It gives me good access to the areas that need repair and will allow me to send the body off for painting while I work on the new chassis, engine etc. Being an hon...

So the body it ready to be lifted but how to do it? There's two places which could house cross-beams if the wheels weren't shod with tyres! We need the wheels on to move the chassis, transmission and engine out from under the body! I am making a set of wooden 15" wheels which give me the room to put...
