551 A race oddity

There’s not too much to report, the main thing done was to modify the front frame with some features to hold the rear edge of the splitter to the frame, keeping everything aligned underneath. It needed to work to allow the nose to be removed easily for service & loading on to the trailer. I had a te...

EFI’s fleet

It's nice that the power plot on the graph starts way above the original max power.

Are you happy with the changes from the single turbo?

I should say, the obvious & easy way to get strength to the back would be with some metal, but I was trying to keep the weight down.

551 A race oddity

The rear tow eyes are finished. I’d done most of this before, but I hadn’t finished it off, as I needed some top-hat spacers. The Blue Book race regs. strongly recommends two wire rope tow eyes at the front & back. This was likely to become a requirement, so I bought 4 eyes, ages ago, then puzzled h...

Not at all, very impressive.
I think any judgement needs to be reserved until I've tried the car in competition. I've only completed a shake-down test so far!

551 A race oddity

Does that translate into wheelspin or acceleration? The simple answer, is that it depends how you apply the throttle. It can do either. It's a little lively on the back end at the moment, which I think can be improved with some suspension tweaks. Also the tyres I used for the shake-down are past th...

551 A race oddity

The LH rear tyre was catching on the wheel arch at Curborough. The smoke in the photo above I think is a mixture of the tyre catching & a bit of whell spin. Whilst the car was on axle stands to investigate the gearbox oil leak, I whipped the rear wheels too. The tyre had been catching on the remenan...

551 A race oddity

Great start (hope the oil is an easy fix) It's the first time I've looked at the car since my shake-down test & fortunately the oil leak is an easy fix. It's just the gearbox outlet / propshaft seal. I've got a used B&M shifter to swap in for the standard gear shifter, so I'll do the seal & the shi...
