Excel Classic Car Show

I went there on Friday too,the first time I have been to the ExCel.I liked it,plenty of room and not too crowded. The green Healey belonged to a guy I work with in retirement,it cost an absolute fortune to restore. It was very good to see all the restoration skills that still exist here, albeit at a p...

Battery chargers

I have used one of these for many years,a superb bit of kit.It was not cheap but you might still find one as old stock somewhere. https://www.sheridanmarine.com/product/ ... y-chargers

GOT ONE!!!....NEVER GIVE UP!

Now here is an interesting thing.A nice new wide copper braid fitted from the blind tapping on the front cylinder head(oil filter side) and connected to the main battery earth on the suspension cross brace on that side ,then all my other new eaths checked and cleaned again. The multi meter shows no d...

Yes I agree with that but I thought at least the guy would understand what an earth braid/cable was.I asked for “Jenolite” in Halfords a couple of months ago,the guy wanted to know what wattage builds they were :P  I still live in hope and yes Bryan...Locost Solutions are very good. I need to ...

GOT ONE!!!....NEVER GIVE UP!

Well I went shopping for some quality earth braiding this morning....how difficult could that be? I did say that putting in a registration number was a waste of time and said “do you have any generic parts”.......” Sorry mate, never heard of that make of car before”...I give up !!!!!!

Essex Timing markings

Yes that is the way to go without a DTI.A few years ago I made just such a thing from an old spark plug.I removed the inner and made up a probe from an old push rod,the domed end fits against the piston and I can lock it in place with a grub screw, then use it just like the way you suggested :D The b...

Essex Timing markings

Ah Jim,I should have explained.I have a very useful timing light. All you need is an accurate TDC mark, nothing else. The light has an accurate tachometer as well,Once set up,you can either dial in your required running advance at any rpm and watch it advance or conversely you can see instantly what yo...

Essex Timing markings

Looking at that diagram Roger,if I take the distance form 14 to 8 i.e. the point distance of two peaks and transpose that distance from the 6 degree mark, that would be TDC? I only ask as I do not have a DTI at the moment to put down the #1 plug hole to get TDC. I want to find it for dynamic timing.

Otter switch - how did we get here ?

This reminds me of a few years ago when I asked in a nuts and bolts shop for some P.K.screws...they were at a loss. What I wanted were self tappers,it’s just that as a young lad😀 we called them P.Ks after “Parker Kaylon” The 1940s manufacturer! Then there was Halfords last year, they thought “Jenolite...
