Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

Larger rad and twin fans are pretty pointless on a 5 IMO - the standard setup works fine. I have an alloy rad, purely because I needed a new one at 47 years (the rad not me :-)) I always had overheating, even after engine flush and recored rad, therefore I'm taking no chances. I aready had a twin f...

Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

Hi Ken I make NEW front nose supports out of Galv/zintec sheet and even if you put a different radiator in the nose support does not need to be any different, unless your going to try fit it RIGHT at the front of the body LOL. I also make all the front steelwork in zintec, so if you want a bespoke ...

Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

Very nice, but...there's always a but. On the gearbox the nyloc I see is too deep, the locking nylon bit is not gripping the thread enough. Just cut down the nut a tad. If it can come undone it will! Also the nuts used to locate the rod ends need to be nylocs too. As it is those nuts WILL come undo...

Re: Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

ksand1bsu Yet again the old chestnut of trying to identify an item by "what car was it fitted to" Bearings - even from that era are/were still fairly standard engineering. What is needed is the bearing number itself which is stamped/etched on the bearing itself. In this case the bearings are (rolle...

Re: Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

Are you sure the shocks and springs are okay? I think after 20 + years storage I'd be replacing them as a matter of course? https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3789/33616103556_f96dfd03fd_z.jpg They are, were one of the items replaced shortly before it came off the road, still had original paint on, just...

It's great that you've kept them all these years.....Good luck with getting them back on the road. Hope all goes well... Thanks for the good wishes. Re: Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

I don't use Flickr but here's some tips from Roger Flikr isn't perhaps as simple as Photobucket for putting photos in forum posts. You need to open the particular photo, then at bottom right, there's the "share photo" icon. Click on this, and it gives you 4 options. You want the BBCode one. Copy th...

Ongoing Restoration XRC 202 (1969 SE5)

Background I acquired XRC 202 (1969 SE5) in 1980 and ran it for about 13 years doing only the basics to keep it roadworthy. I bought an SE5a (KRC 221K)with front end accident damage, which on close inspection was not as bad as the previous owner described. I made a mould off the front of XRC, glasse...
