Bit late to come to the party, but... For the record, my Kempes Engineers Handbook tells me that 1/8" x 40 tpi is a Whitworth screw thread, and has an effective diameter of 0.109" Sounds familiar? Ah...so what I really need is some 1/8 X 40 X 3/8 Whitworth. That difference in the dia., thread angle...

Se6/6a used a 14W with a 130 deg gear, so I would have thought it would work equally well? I wonder why they changed from 14W to 16W for the 6b/GTC? For Guybetts: ref fitting 14W brush plate to 16W motor:- Having looked at it, it looks as if the spacers under the brush plate to raise the brushes up...

Oh joy Wed. morning thought I would give a quick try of wipers and they worked in all states first time and continued to do so for rest of day. Blue RTV gasket maker on top wheel-box spacer to seal to body and tightened up. Tried wipers again Thursday and again worked first time every time. Will sti...

GTC 1980 Progress-: 14W motor tested and fitted. Wiring all reconnected .....tried steering column switch......nothing moved.. :( Fault could be-: (from previous 16W motor burn out) 1. defect in column switch (but all 3 contacts at once? bit unlikely 2. Poor connection at plug/socket column switch l...

Agree mostly, but the wiper fuse is only in the wiper (and pump) circuit so is not a distribution fuse (well just ignoring the pump...suspect that was just a convenience afterthought to add it to that particular circuit.) so I feel it ought to protect the motor and its associated wiring. I'd rather ...

Yes precisely......so the 35 amp will still happily pass 25.9 amps continuously and....what.....40 to 50 amp before blowing (not forgetting the time factor...higher amps quicker blow at a constant value. So 35 amp not good for the wiring/motor protection in our case.. I just wonder if a 10 amp fuse ...

Wipers and washers fuse 35A! Just got to thinking ...since the GTC does not have a rear wiper just screen wiper and washer might this not be a bit excessive? SE6/6a workshop manual (14W motor) says motor current 3.5A (presumably on fast) and SVC tech article says 2 to 4 Amps (look for trouble if mor...

How exactly is the proper non damaging way to remove the switch from the central switch/instrument console??? It seems possible to just leaver the switch off (but that loses the illumination bulb holder). Removing the top two screws allowing the console to pull forward at the top giving access to th...

I have, printed out, a technical article from SVC written by Tony Stafford from the days he ran the business. It includes a series of simple tests done using a test plug plugged into the parking switch in place of the car loom plug. Very quick and very simple fault finding. I wanted one of those tes...

Deffo The Scim system works in a massively different way to most modern systems using cables and pulleys. Just for interest the cables are "wire rope" in dealer parlance. When I did my Renault Espace the rope was (from memory) around 2 to 3mm and wound on and off a drum with furrows in its surface....

Mark.gtcse8....sorry my ignorance but what you mean by "spun out" For all By the way am currently using 0/40 Mobil 1 fully synthetic (and of course AFMT :w ). After 3,889 miles since oil change a top up of about 1.8 lit was needed = 4.628ml per 100 miles. Engine at 100,500 miles. pressure at 50 on g...

Can anyone give me a detailed instruction as to how you get the park switch off the 14W motor? The 16W is easy with the 2 holding on screws. In the 14W box I can see what looks like a spring clip on the inside just next to the worm wheel of the motor.....so where do you leaver to get the switch off ...

scimrick..Richard Denis As I said in earlier post, it's fairly easy to reposition gear wheel by 180 degrees to function as left hand nearside park position as standard set up on GTC. Richard My 16W gearwheel has the crankpin and switch-operating-cam in fixed positions, so no matter where you re-inse...
