Essex broken pushrod guide

Unless you can find someone who has a old engine to get one from possibly easier to make one Nick. The broken bit will have gone into the sump and is very unlikely to cause any problems.

Dash re-cover (Again!)

Leather is fine providing you treat it often to stop it drying out - shrinking and cracking in the sun. I used leatherette using contact adhesive for the most of it but had to use super glue on the edges and tight corners - either side of the centre bit that raised.

I changed mine Alan because the MOT man said there was play in it - having fitted a new one which was just the same as the old one he has not commented on it again - save to say that changing it has made no difference but he has made a note of the fact that it was changed.

jump starter

Not having a jump starter or even looked at them I can only think you are right its a diode pack in case it is connected the wrong way around. Just think of the current that would result from having two batteries in series in a closed circuit - it would be a big bang and dangerous to anyone near.

Here are the two types - put the later ones in the earlier engine and so much oil goes into the rocker box it cannot drain back to the sump quick enough and its ends up being drawn into the carb via the rocker breather.

If you decide to re-con the engine and its a early Essex don't fit new tappets - the early tappets are no longer available and if you fit the later tappets over 70 the engine smokes rather a lot. The PO of my Coupe fitted the later tappets and I drove around for three years below 70 not realising wh...

According to the book you have to take the trailing arm off but I managed to get a 3/8 socket to the bolts that hold the hub on after using a hub puller to push the shaft back towards the diff. I could not get the trailing arm bolts loose ( without damage ) hence ny use of "my" method. Putting it al...

I take it you will not be expecting me on Wednesday Nick - I will have to put my listening tube away. Sorry to hear it is going to cost you money to put right.

Not all that helpful - Morrisons petrol turned my plugs red - don't use their petrol now as they don't do super anyway.

Off the top of my head Wednesday would be the best for me but we can confirm it later - plenty of time to think about it.
