660XYB Engine fix

Making some progress: draining fluids, and I've removed the starter. I think it is a later type as it is pre-engage (I assume '60's Fords weren't?) SE5a rear brakes assembly order - where does the dust seal go?

Engine, preserving for long term storage?

Personally I would make use of a large can of WD40 - I think this is actually what it was designed for originally but could be wrong. Obviously seal up all engine orifices as well. Ive been told that the aluminium faced duct tape is good for this I would leave plugs in but just finger tight and prob...

Seat Diaghragms

Was just wondering Victor if they have been stored in direct sunlight? Could it be that if they were covered up once fitted it would have prevented this happening?
Glad to hear you got your money back though :D

Inserts for badges

Most were missing on my car so I secured the badges with a dab of silicone sealer on the pins. They seem to hold fine

Wanted - SE5a wishbone brackets and pedal return-spring.

The pedal springs may well be shared with something else of the era but I don’t think anyone has ever investigated. It's snapped on mine, which seems to be unusual. I shall put on my deer-stalker and see if I can find a source. 😉 One of the springs had snapped on mine where it loops round the pedal...

WE have a local sprint GTE which runs at just under 240bhp and he tappets on it are very noisy - by design

Some cams have to have very loose tappets which make noise all the time
I dont know enough about the subject to disagree Peter but common sense would tell me that you are losing lift the greater the gap which would seem to be counter productive if you are trying to get maximum power?

Tappet adjustment query

Ive seen people get an old rocker cover and cut the top off and fit that to catch most of the oil. Failing that a cardboard dam helps

Tappet adjustment query

Could you not do the old mechanics trick of doing the tappets whilst the engine is running and simply adjust individually until the noise just goes away. Done with the engine hot I believe?

Remove a car radio

I dont think its possible on a 5a. I found the only way was to remove the dash (or at least pull it forward to allow the radio to escape
