Air filter won't fit?

Yes, it’s an original vs DGAS thing. I have not found out recently that the 5a underbonnet moulding is slightly different to clear the snorkel. If you see the filter housing for a 40 it’s different. Personally, I’d cut the snorkel short and fit a bit of hose to pick cool(er) air from somewhere lower.

Ultra Low Emission Zone

Not banned - just have to pay.
CO and HC figures are only part of the compliance to the relevant Euro standard. Don’t forget that it doesn’t matter what the readout was of your car at the last MoT - it’s what the car was approved to be able to achieve.

Good or Appropriate Number Plates

7VT, followed by VT7, 2 cars behind - had to look twice as I thought it was the same plate at first.

Move to the countryside then or up north where the people are not so stupid.
Admin hat on:
Hardly helpful, Peter. I doubt you’d like it if someone made a slant against the North East? Maybe read things through before you hit the submit button next time.

G130 YCF my first sprint car

So far each SS1 I have done cooling system work on has needed the return pipe in the expansion bottle clearing but I've never had to do this on a car with a 5a style expansion tank. That'll be because the on in the SS1 tank is a tiny steel insert that corrodes and blocks up over time. The one in th...

Should be blue stuff.

heater fan switch voltage

Prime suspect is the “Ignition Control “ fuse - pull it out and check the brass ears are giving enough clamping force.

Biggest clue (aside from finding the chassis number stamped in the upright) would be underneath - if it's got the mountings for the tubular crossbrace under the rear of the sump (inner edges of the chassis rails) like your SE5, then it's highly likely to be an SE5 chassis. If it's got a flat plate u...

DVLA says no MoT results but I think that means it’s been declared exempt rather than expired a long time ago.

As would the rest of the body, Geoff. No doubting it is a 5a body. The question is if the reg number matches the chassis or not.

Or a 5 trying to look (ish) like 5a?

Plus side - looks like a tidy body. I’m not sure it belongs to the chassis (or number) though.

.however dash is 5 ! The dash looks like it came from an SE5 originally. Still has the 5a gauges and switchgear as far as I can see. The centre console vents match with the 5a heater arrangement (as seen from the engine bay) but no picture of what might have been done with the dash vents at either ...
