Irrespective of how the "alternative" looks, it sounds like its likely to be the cause of the problems. The connector damage looks like it's suffered from a bad connection in the past, causing failure. This could have caused the wiring that used to go to it to suffer such that even if it looks OK on...

Could be a delay-return valve, but you can also get residual pressure valves which keep a little pressure in the system (which could help with pad knock-back)? Back to the original issue - don't forget to inspect the cylinder bore as if it's corroded in any way, the new seals won't last very long at...

It does sound like the master cylinder isn’t releasing the fluid back into the reservoir, hence why you get trapped pressure (keeping the brake switch on).

I’d say a rebuild of the master cylinder is in order?

Rear seal can leak, but more common is the valve cover gaskets (usually where the coves have been distorted from over-tightening). Likewise the sump - if it's been disturbed at some point in the cars life.

Ti starting woes

I’ve not got a wiring diagram in front of me at the moment but disconnect the switch from the loom, Brown to green (?), then flash brown to white/red to activate the starter motor.
