Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Hopefully my last post on this problem, the rubber hose from the tank to fuel pipe was like a sponge in the middle and hard at each end, replaced it and the clips, fuel now holding in the filter, not draining back, mixture is now pretty rich so any extra air that was being pumped has stopped. Only t...

Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Managed to get someone to go under the car and have a look, first thing is the rubber pipe from the tank outlet to the plastic fuel pipe has no hose clips on it and can be turned by hand, so a bit loose. Question is, am I right in assuming the fuel outlet continues into the tank and then goes at rig...

Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Fitted the pressure reducer today, seems to have done the trick in starting, tickover and static revving, but hasn't made any difference to the underlying problem, still feels like fuel starvation, also noticed the amp gauge is only showing 11, was at 12.5 . just a coincidence ?. Looks like I may ha...

Price guide for GTE SE6b

Datsundrew, pull your neck on buddy. Have a gander through the gallery, you'll find most aren't pristine, but loved and those that are in 1st class condition are rightly lauded by their owners. Pommy

GTC Preston

Spotted a very nice grey? GTC driving out of Preston towards Bamber Bridge today, could have been to 'classics on the park' event, nice car. In fact today's been a right treat as classics of all makes, including a Black Mustang, have been passing my house.

Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Done a pressure test on the new pump, putting out 7psi much to strong, so much for buying OE kit that doesn't come in a makers box, far eastern rubbish maybe. I have a pressure reducer so I will plumb it in this weekend and see how it goes.

Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Back from hols , recovering from Scimmy Stress... Fitted a new mechanical pump, delivering tons of fuel, but, before fitting car started on the button, idled well and rev'd freely. Now hard to start, won't rev and completely lost idle, engine flooding, rowed back the idle screws to 2 1/2 turns out, ...

Re: Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

OK, see what you mean, I am not experiencing that problem. I keep coming back to the pump, petrol is very low in the filter, below the pipe bores, even when the pump works it never completely fills the filter, I think a change (new pump) is needed. Go back to manual or a new electric, price is about...

Peter, not sure what you mean, under no load, not moving, bonnet up or down, revs freely..

Re: Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Thanks for all the contributions. This past week, checked all the pipes above ground, I can't get my knackered body under the car, changed the pipes, fuel line to pump, pump to carb, changed the inline filter, cleaned and blew through the carb, checked and moved the pump into cooling airflow. Ran th...

Peter, I still have my original carb, might be worth putting it back on.. But then I remembered why I changed it.. what a pig it was to set.

Re: Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Makes sense to move the pump away from the heat, not sure I'm up to doing it, what I would give for a body that works... As a alternative, would moving the pump to the front of the car into cooler air provide a solution.

Re: Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Wow, a whole avalanche of advice... Thanks all. I will start by running with a pipe direct from the pump to the carb. Also blow back to the tank, to make sure its clear. It will be very difficult for me to check or replace pipes under the car, but if these changes have no effect, I will have to let ...

Re: Stuttering / Cutting out, haven't a clue

Jim, its the original pipe from the tank to the pump (in), new pipe from the pump, the NRV is alloy and is between the pump and the filter, the vent hole is clear in the cap. Power is from the fuse box, ign switch activated, no relay is fitted. No major work done of late, has run well during the col...
