Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

After 4 months of trying to fix this cutting out problem its time to hand over to the 'professionals', or at least someone who knows what their doing. Does anyone know of a reputable classic friendly garage in or very close to Preston Lancashire, I only have 15 to 20 mins drive time before it cuts o...

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Jim, I did set the plastic float 34/44, I also tried the brass float 41/51, assuming I have done the setting correctly, nothing I do seems to make a breakthrough. 3 months at this now, about to admit defeat, don't want to but, summers here and I want to use the car, time for the professionals, if I ...

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Sorry for the delay, the problem I have is still there, but, the last time it happened I sprayed carb cleaner into the carb barrels and the engine picked up, maintained a tickover for a short time. I have noticed as the stalling is about to happen it will only rev to about 2500 / 3000 then flattens ...

Thanks Dennis, carb is 38 DGMS supplied by Fast Road Cars, built for my 5a auto, i have no way of knowing if the correct float is fitted, your figures make perfect sense, current up is 36.5 but the down is only 41.5, not so good, I will have another go at the adjustment at the weekend.. Pommy

My new W block came today, cost a lot and the gaskets still need to be trimmed..... I have at least three measurements quoted for plastic float height, 1.. Universal 34.3 up 44.3 down. 2.. DGV 34 up 50 down. 3..DGAS 39 up 51.5 down, all in mm's to the bottom of the float. My float currently sits at ...

MOT changes

Read with interest the article in Slice 280, its quite complicated. I have a scenario that wasn't covered, you have a car that falls into the required time frame, its registered in the Historic tax class and is unmodified, its current Mot runs out before the road tax... Can you continue to run it un...

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Jim, tried the accel pump check, fuel did spray from the jet, just a little, managed to check the float chamber, it was virtually empty, 1/4 inch in the bottom. Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Dennis, take on board all you say, I do have a coil, points, condenser, from pre powerstart fitting and were good at the time. My whole focus up to now has been with vacuum leak, or fuel starvation, I'm at the point were so much of the fuel system has been changed and the fault still manifests itsel...

Stuttering / Cutting out, petrol starvation

Chris, fuel return is blocked off and the small vac tube is blanked off, I have tried running from a gravity supply straight to the carb, using both the new and old carbs, same problems. Jim, is there a trick to removing the carb top, the choke linkage at the carb is difficult to get at with carb st...

Back again, thanks for your past help. Did a static run today with a vacuum gauge attached to the servo vacuum take off. Started easily, gauge showed a steady 18/19 hg, good fuel delivery into the carb, ran without any problem for 20 mins then started to hesitate, vacuum reading dropped to 15, fuel ...

Thanks everyone much to try at the weekend, I do have a coil, its not new but serviceable, I will try another run (garage) and check the float chamber for petrol. Philip, perseverance pays !! , I'd be well off if it did lol. I have access to a vacuum gauge and would try it if I knew how, but then so...

I did Jim, and it was a bit out so I reset, the cut off valve was OK, clean, no deposits etc. Just got this months 'Slice', a article by Tim Crake, its a coupe' but the paragraph about after market inlet gaskets has me thinking, all I have done is above the manifold, carb, pipes, filters, gaskets, c...
