SE5a Rear Axle

Hi, the upright box section that connects the rear suspension trailing arms and coilover to the axle has snapped clean in two, leaving my suspension resting on the inner rim of my rear drivers side wheel...I know you can get replacements for these but given that involves welding a new support onto t...

Re: stainless steel 5/5a bumpers

How soon is soon though? I don't know about other people's bumpers (not been in the group long and haven't been to any Noggins yet!) but mine are just dull - there are spots on the surface where the chrome has flaked off, but the nickel/copper is still there underneath - at least I think this is wha...

Re: stainless steel 5/5a bumpers

We have a cadmium plating machine at work, the guy from the company we get the bits from said that for £20ish I could buy some chrome plate solution. But it would be only good for touching up small areas not doing a whole bumper. It's a brush plate system we use. I had looked at the brush-chroming ...

Re: Clean the entire car for just 9p

I used Pledge furniture polish on really badly oxidised paint...1 can does the whole car and has the same effect as an awful lot of t-cut with a lot less effort! Sadly is a tad more expensive than babywipes, but still not as much as products sold as car cleaners!

Re: stainless steel 5/5a bumpers

Re: First Foray into Scimitardom...

To be honest, this thread is almost up to date now (looking at some of the full resto threads I feel quite guilty at how little I've had to do :D ) Bar a few electrical niggles with corroded earths and those bloody stupid rear light clusters (I take it the bulb holders always corrode like that given...

Re: First Foray into Scimitardom...

Right, so the next job was to get it running again! a quick check with a spare battery told me that the engine was happy to turn over, but no spark. Points gap and rotor arm seemed ok, and there was power on the LT side, so new coil (and points and rotor, just becasue it seemed sensible) were purcha...

Re: First Foray into Scimitardom...

Steel wheels! lovely :) the wiper looks oversized, or is that an illusion? that's a piece of foam water-pipe lagging! thankfully it has now been consigned to the history books! Steel wheels are currently in my cellar, awaiting a set of winter tyres so I don't have to give up on it when the weather ...

First Foray into Scimitardom...

Ok, so I've been told I'd better get a project thread up and running - I'm afraid there are no plans for V8, OHC, bike carbs or any other such exotic upgrades with the car (yet!) As I've had my fingers burned with that in the past (more details on that will come out as I go along!), just a simple (h...

Glad you got the car Edd, best to start a project thread to show us all your hard work  Project thread on it's way... luckily my Boss is away this week so should have plenty of chances to upload images! Re: About time I said Hello!

Crikey, when did my name become Edd! Welcome though :) Don't tell me it happened to you too? Talking to Geoff yesterday I noticed a fibreglass repair patch on his wi...

About time I said Hello!

Hi, I bought my first Scimitar (Highland Purple SE5a) through ebay after finding it advertised on here last year (thank you to everyone who gave their help and advice!) and have been working away on it ever since. After 12 years off the road THM 419M is now taxed and tested again, and (following a s...
