The thread is not 1/8 BSP, it is M10 x 1.

Maybe on your car, but M10 wouldnt fit on mine. Thus fitted 1/8 bsp (28 tpi). Works a treat.

The thread on mine was 1/8 BSP. I blanked it off with a plug. Looking at your photo it looks bigger. Try 1/4 BSP. Dont have a better picture but you can just see it

NEC CLASSIC CAR SHOW 8-10 NOVEMBER 2019

It was great to have a good chat with you Mike and many others who stopped to look at the cars. Yes Barbaras paintwork was looking tired as we had taken our eye off the ball trying to get the GTC finished. It should have been on the stand originally, but had to pull out and the SS1 was a late substi...

GTC hood suppliers?

I used Don Hood for both the GTC and the SS1. Quality is good compared to some hoods Ive seen . I fitted them myself, but you need a warm day in summer for ease of stretching them or some form of heating in a garage. Its a job you need to do when you are in the mood and just take your time.

Also looks like a Gilbern inthe background. I wonder what the faded yellow car next to it is. Just noticed a stag and the XJC in the second row.

Yep the 5a was identical to that. I will be replicating that for the GTC.

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

Yes I had a pigtail on the 5a. I was going to put one in on the stainless steel pipe when I fit it. Just to be on the safe side.

There is a metal pipe from the gearbox then it has a rubber tube that goes to the plate below the carb ( a leftover from the old carb? ). I always assumed that it should be rubber. On my 5a it was metal through to the connection to the inlet manifold with a small tube connection

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

After sorting out Barbaras SS1 non functioning headlights ( bloody relays) had a look at the C again. Very difficult to start and not ticking over properly so I started to root around the ht leads etc. Then BINGO. Brand new vacuum pipe from the gearbox to the inlet manifold, split. And not just a sm...

You could have problems welding stainless steel to mild steel. This will tell you more;

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

I've been searching back through this thread, and on page three I found a photo of the engine and box. I've enlarged a portion and it looks like this: Dipstick.jpg Now I've never seen a "red dipstick" car, but is it literally just the dipstick that's red, or the tube as well? If it was just the dip...

Ians GTC rebuild. And now with MOT

Went out in the garage last night and checked the oil.....wrong stuff used. As mine has a red dipstick I used DexronII. Should have used ATF 33 (black dipstick). It would appear, as Phil wondered, that the dipstick had been changed at sometime in the past. Looks like a bit work required from undern...
