Wrapping

I've been thinking about wrapping as a way of replacing the vinyl on the GTC's hardtop. Taking on board the points about moisture and blistering from wrapping, does vinyl roof material cause the same problems, or does it 'breathe' a bit?

Spotted on Tv & Film hire

Not me, but I notice they've still got my old A30 on the list - must tell them I've sold it! I used to have a GTE with them too, but it disappeared after they rebuilt their website. Don't expect to get lots of offers from them.

Asking about axles

Ah - thought that might be it. I thought I'd had a brainwave to put a couple of bolts through the holes at the end of the axle tube and use nuts on them to push the shaft out. But then I realised that all I was doing was tightening the oil seal cover on to the end of tube so of course the shaft coul...

Gavin did you put something across the hub for the rods to bear on, the holes in my backplate don't line up with the hub at all. Mind you my brakes are Lockheed and yours will be Girling I think?

Asking about axles

Thanks for the picture Gavin. Pretty much what I imagined, save that I had all the angleiron facing the same way, which is silly because they wouldn't fit together properly! I'll have a look at using threaded rod to push the shaft out. I'm going to need a more gentle method of working as one of my e...

Asking about axles

It seems Scimjim's prophecy has come true, the shafts aren't for coming out via slide hammering☹️ I undid the 4 bolts at the end of the axle, that 'should' be all that holds them in, so any other bright ideas?

Asking about axles

Never occurred that I could make my own spreader! I should have some angle iron lying around. I'm imagining a "U" of it, with the threaded rod on the open side to provide the opening force. But doesn't the rod have a tendency to bend under the strain?

Asking about axles

Right. I have the 'lid' off the axle, and I've taken the caps off the diff main bearings. I've arranged to borrow a slide hammer from the local garage to pull out the halfshafts, so after that the diff should be ready to come out. Is it just a matter of careful levering one side at a time, or is the...

When doing the valves you need to rock the rockers (sorry) sideways to keep them from jamming on the adjuster nuts.
