Fitting a BMW engine and gearbox into a 6A

Hi again I got the tape measure out today to measure engine length / height etc. I know that I can't really decide anything in full detail until I have the bmw engine on the crane but a silly idea occurred to me today so I thought I would ask if anyone had tried a similar move before. Basically its ...

Locked up engine

They are a strong engine. I've just remembered destroying the engine in my V4 corsair while travelling fast on the M25 before it was finished. I got the car towed home and then nearly got it going the next day on two. When I took it apart, one piston was stuck up the bore with its con rod bent into ...

Locked up engine

Yes, similar issue clearly although far more movement. I didn't know that the hardened valve seats could drop, sounds like a possibility for that other problem but I feel mind is more likely to be either timing gear teeth or even something broken inside. The car was laid up for years and i have no i...

Fitting a BMW engine and gearbox into a 6A

Its good to know it fits and it sounds like it could be fun. The 523 still has a throttle cable unlike my 525 so thats a slight advantage.

Maybe a good summer play time is awaiting!

Fitting a BMW engine and gearbox into a 6A

Yes. The other one is the M54 but its a good spare either way. I figure the best way to avoid ever needing a spare engine is to own one. I think the whole transplant including ECU etc etc could make a very nice drive. I have a reasonable essex to go into the good car but its tempting to do something...

Locked up engine

Hi I recently bought another 6a, as you do! It has been sitting for many many years. The engine was totally seized but the previous owner did remove the plugs and put oil down the bores. i gave it a little turn with a spanner and it started turning quite easily. Unfortunately it does about a quarter...

Fitting a BMW engine and gearbox into a 6A

I have a few scimitars still awaiting me to get around to sorting. I also have a BMW 525I which is great and a 523 with a good engine and gearbox waiting to be broken up for spares for the 525. It occurs to me that maybe the best place to store the engine for the next few years until my 525 needs it...

5a manual steering rack

Hi.

I have listed a manual steering rack for a 5a on eBay. I actually have two of these. Open to discussion, just wanting to clear some space and have too many scimitar spares here really.

Steering racks

Why doesn't that surprize me!
I guess that bl had a few spares so reliant helped them out a bit!
Someone told me the front screen on a 5 a is from a ford classic, is that correct. I believe the 6a was meant to be from a corsair?

Hi I have two manual steering to sell. I know one is from a 5a which I had in bits a few years ago. The second rack is visually identical to the first so I imagine its from either a 5a also or maybe the previous models. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where reliant bought these racks from. I...

Rear axle

Thanks for the links, it gives me an idea of how to list my one. In fact I have just worked out that I have 5, two on the cars I'm keeping and at least one more I should keep as a spare. That means that I might have two to sell! Mind you, they are both untested as neither car was every driven on the...

Rear axle

Hi

I have just been asked about selling my spare rear axle. It's from a 1977 6a . I haven't ever heard it on the road or looked at it properly.
Any idea how much I should expect for it? How do I quickly find out which type of axle it is?

Thanks
