Project HUM

That's one HUMdinger of a car, Mike! Great to see another yellow 5a getting back on the road. 8)

Ignition light staying on

Just a quick update on this - I fitted a new 17ACR 50 amp alternator and the problem is now solved. I decided to go with the simpler (if more expensive) approach. Thanks for the suggestions.

New (to me) Se5a

Welcome, Spencer. The car looks good! Does it really need stripped and rebuilt!? Where in the Borders are you? Hopefully you'll be able to make it along to join the Scotland (East) noggin which has pretty strong membership. I'm over in the west with a 1971 SE5a. We should hopefully have a few Scimit...

Dash cams.....

I have a Nextbase 402G in my daily driver, and have used it in my Scimitar when wanting to capture special journeys. For me, the clarity (of both audio and video) is great. I've had mine a few years now (it was 'Which? Best Buy' in 2014), so there may well be better ones on the market by now, but I ...

I reckon it could be a bargain?
Possibly, but it's just too much of an unknown quantity. Why couldn't the owner simply push it out of the garage, wash it, and get photos of more than just the rear end? It raises my suspicions somewhat...

Hear, hear! And as someone who appreciates number plates, that one is an absolute cracker! OSM 205M; so in other words it looks like 'Osm 2 Osm' or 'Awesome to Awesome', almost like 'going from strength to strength'. Best of luck with the engine fitting, and enjoy that stunning car! 8) Tom PS - Or,...

Fluctuating volt .meter

Pommy, I reckon our cars must be sending each other signals, as mine seems to suffer the same issues at the same time as yours. It was the same with the cutting out when warm, and now with the dodgy ignition light! For what it's worth, I've got an uprated 50amp 17ACR alternator on its way - decided ...

Ignition light staying on

I've tried turning the headlights on, then starting the engine. The headlights got brighter on start-up. So, should I conclude that the alternator is charging and doing its job, and that the fault is with the ignition light wiring? Again, on a short drive the car behaved impeccably. Any ideas are ap...

Ignition light staying on

I know there are a couple of threads on here to do with the ignition light staying on, but has anyone experienced these symptoms: The ignition light on my 5a is flickering at idle, then glowing brighter with increased revs, and staying on while driving. The voltmeter is reading as normal (around 13V...

Oh my goodness... Mike, I am so sorry to hear this. The car seemed in good shape to me from the little that I saw (and heard), and I was assured the paperwork was comprehensive. I feel pretty flat now. I must apologise, as I clearly made an inaccurate assessment of the car. The seller must've 'talke...

North Coast 500

It's clearly a 'bucket list' experience for any keen driver, as evidenced by the comments above. I fully intend to give it a go sometime too. The issue for me is that, as a teacher, I am limited to the 'peak' times of year, when it'll be busy with tourists... :?
