Dampers and Springs

Thanks for all the replies and comments. I contacted AVO via their website and asked if there was any way I could identify what spec dampers were fitted to the car. Interestingly their reply was speak to Nigel at QRG, so that is what I did. He has the AVOs for the rear so I ordered those on the basi...

Spark Plugs in a Cologne 2.9l

An interesting discussion, the cylinder head on my car has an "F" cast into it so clearly the flat seat spark plugs are correct for this engine.

Spark Plugs in a Cologne 2.9l

Just to finish off this thread I contacted Burton Power who advised the spark plugs for this engine should have a flat seat, so I ordered six of the NGK Iridium BCPR7EIX. I decided there was no option but to remove the alternator and its bracket to get to No1 plug, so off it came. The spark plugs ar...

Dampers and Springs

Hi Folks, Another question for you to ponder please. I had noticed the rear dampers were misting slightly and in fact this was an advisory on the recent MOT (which it passed, yippee). I therefore want to fit new rear dampers and springs and the question is which ones. A previous owner fitted a pair ...

Spark Plugs in a Cologne 2.9l

Thanks everyone for their replies. I have tried moving the alternator but really it is the bracket that is the problem. Seems unusual as Ford are normally quite good at keeping servicing fairly straightforward and simple, or else is this bracket a specific Middlebridge item? The engine has NGK BCPR7...

Spark Plugs in a Cologne 2.9l

Having now had the car for a year I thought I would give it a bit of a service including changing the spark plugs. Access to 5 of them is fine but the Number 1 plug is obscured behind the alternator mounting bracket and I cannot see how to get at it. I cannot even get the HT lead off it. The only wa...

Your thoughts on a random misfire.

I had exactly the same symptoms on one of my cars (not a Scimitar), it turned out to be a weak ignition coil which I tracked down by measuring the resistances on the primary and secondary windings. One othe test is do you get a misfire under hard acceleration, this was another one of the symptoms. T...

MB odometer accuracy

According to Google Maps it is 167 miles. But as a comparison I recently tested my modern car odometer against the tracker satellites over 4 roughly 100 mile journeys. The result was that the tracker satellites were consistently 5%-6% under the odometer. I am wondering if it is the way the digital m...

MB odometer accuracy

Hi All, Just to resurrect this one I finally did a reasonably long journey in MD54 where I remembered to record the start and finish mileage according to the odometer. According to the car the total distance was 176 miles, according to the satellites it was 169 miles. So the difference is 7 miles wh...

number plate lamps

Will, You could try these people: www.bettercarlighting.co.uk Put BA9 into the search box and it will show quite a large selection of different types. If in doubt e-mail them for a data sheet to see the actual physical size. I have used their bulbs quite extensively on several cars and have found th...

How to remove the Automatic Gearbox Selector Cover

Andrew, Attached are a couple of photos of the selector cover on my car (MB54). The selector appears to be in a similar position to your car and the surround cover simply pulls upwards, there are no screws or clips holding it in. On the selector indicator plate there is a small tab at the front that...

MB odometer accuracy

I'd be a little bit wary of relying on a GPS speed reading. I have a TomTom satnav which shows the speed and no matter what car I am driving, whether old or new, the GPS speed has always been 3-4mph slower than the speedometer. Bear in mind a GPS only measures your linear speed, it cannot make an al...
