Wire Wheels ??

Mark, exercising the grey matter, I seem to recall being told that the Coupe had 72 spoke wire wheels, and that the Sabre had fewer. Can't remember who told me, but might have been Chris Lloyd.

And no, I've not counted them recently

GTC bodyshell

Hi Darryl, I wasn't suggesting either the current eBay ad or the one a year ago were scams, or anyone involved was :D , just that the Orange GTC ad was one of the hundreds cloned by the scammers discussed earlier this year. Just for clarity, I posted a copy of the ad from a year ago (above) of a 'po...

GTC bodyshell

The location rang a bell with me, and Hoath (nr. Canterbury) is the same location as the Orange one a couple of months ago - the advert for which was amongst that eBay scammer. Still no idea which number it is, although there was a silver GTC for sale in co. Durham a year ago advertised as a project...

Kevlar Hoses

Yes they are available for the cologne. The set I got for the GTC from QRG included a mix of Kevlar ones, oem rubber and a silicone pipe. All fitted well. The thermostat housing to radiator bottom is a Kevlar one, and does weep a little, but I think that might be due to corroded housing. It's all co...

Headlights - Specifically Main Beam

Check the main beam relay - May be loose or a dry contact. If I recall correctly, the main beam flash doesn't go via the relay. There is an invaluable colour wiring diagram on here (forum) which I'm sure someone will be along shortly to provide a link to it. If not already done so, it's well worth m...

GTC on Ebay

Ian, and on the other subject here, I followed Andy's instructions to sort out my C3 box which was not in good health - and it was pretty easy to do. The result is like a different car :D

GTC on Ebay

Ian, this GTC (#350) is on the register and recorded since at least 2005. The most recent owner recorded on the register was a member. It came to my attention last month when one of my "spies" spotted it for sale :) It was originally Champagne, but seems to have been resprayed white in the late 80's.

Mind you, if you are going to drive like a tw&t, it's usually a good idea not to have a memorable registration

Note, the GTC (UDU463W) did originally sell and the new owner has made contact with me :)

Brake hoses

Which SE4?
Early cars (straight 6 engine) had 2-pot calipers and later cars 3-pot. Not sure if that may have required different routing of the flex.

I fitted Goodrich pipes which I bought from one of the Scimitar specialist (albeit many many years ago), and they fitted perfectly.

Spotted A49 South of Hereford

Of roughly the 3 "B" reg GTC's that are white (versus the unknowns - lots of special paint code 99 in the later cars :? ), then there is only one clearly in the Hereford area. If you can get me the reg number next time you see it, that would help me help you :D P.S. all hardtops were black, unless s...

So when is my GTC tax exempt?

Taking my car as an example.....it was built in Nov 79 but only sold in Aug 80. Now, reliant putting build dates in their chassis numbers and also having a dealer letter explaining this is proof enough for the dvla. So, my car is now mot exempt, but will only be able for tax exemption in early apri...

So when is my GTC tax exempt?

As Jim has already answered, tax exemption will depend on when your GTC was registered, not unfortunately for a large number of us GTC owners, when it was manufactured - which as we all know, is coded in the VIN. Of the 340 built in 1980, quite a few weren't registered until well into 1981, and some...

GTC Hardtop survey

Alex, thanks for posting :D
Count me as interested in a full set. The rear has been in & out a few times (was out when I acquired the GTC) and as mentioned on e-mail, the sides are beginning to perish.
