New Shocks and Bushes

I have ordered new front shock absorbers from SPAX for my 1978 SE6a (standard suspension setup as far as I know). SPAX say that "We supply our BB18 ½” bonded bushes with these shocks" I'm afraid I don't really understand what this means - does anyone know if this will fit straight onto my car, or wi...

Breakdown - help/ advice please

"Over the last few years I have replaced every single component of the cooling system and while the car hasn't overheated in all that time, I loose a small amount of coolant during every journey." Same was true for me but I replaced the cap and there is now no loss of coolant :) The cap has been re...

Breakdown - help/ advice please

Thanks again for all the advice, it is really useful. I managed the 155 miles home without stopping (starter motor appears to be failing as well so I am having great fun at the moment :D ). Encountered stationary traffic for a good 30mins at Birmingham, then again at Shrewsbury, then again at Newtow...

Thanks so much for all the replies. The coolant has drawn back down below the normal "cold" level, but I didn't get a large puddle under the car (just from the small quantity ejected with steam) so hopefully the cap seal is the cause. I will drive home today keeping a close eye on things and see how...

Breakdown - help/ advice please

I am not aware of the engine overheating as I always keep an eye on the temp gauge and it was around 90deg all the way. I suppose it may be possible that overheating occurred in last 10 mins of a 3hr journey in which case I may have missed it. There is no evidence of coolant issuing from the Rad cap...

Breakdown - help/ advice please

I have just driven 155miles and when I parked up at my hotel, turned off the engine, a puff of steam came out the side of the bonnet. Followed by a gurgling sound. Upon inspection it looks like coolant ejected through the header tank (1978 SE6a with standard cooling setup). Am I right in thinking th...

SS1 "Axle" from Hoole to Sheffield or Reading

Quite possibly... My office is near Chester (CH2 4JP) - I go there once or twice a week - so could collect from CH2 3LE assuming it would all fit in the boot of my car (Peugeot 508 SW). And I regularly drive up the M1/ M18 to Doncaster so could meet you at Woodall services, or just off J30/ J31 mayb...

SPRINGS AND DAMPERS

There is a good discussion about this (recently) in "General Technical". Search the forum for "Shock Absorbers" to find it.

Hi you say you fitted a larger radiator? What was it from or was it bespoke?
Probably a bad choice of words on my part. I bought a slightly larger capacity radiator direct from QRG. It cost an arm and a leg and had to be returned as it leaked. So I cannot make any recommendation.

Original radiator from 1978 SE6a

This is still available - now free to a good home (collect only - but I could transport to various locations near Chester, Doncaster, Barrow, Newcastle upon tyne, Cumbernauld, Edinburgh, Huntingdon, Darrington, Penrith, Salford over the next few weeks as I travel a fair bit for work).

Would you buy a Scimitar with Webasto sliding sunroof?

I am not keen on sunroofs of any kind due to potential to weaken the structure of the car if not installed properly. Having said that I found a car that was perfect in every other way so I did buy a SE6a with a Britax (Webasto) sunroof 10 years ago and still love it. If driving fast over a long dist...

Screws to fix headlight surround

Hi Adam You should be able to get these from BML Hayley, AKA the bearing man on the Lion Works in Newtown . Should be able to buy them singular instead of packs, they are pretty helpful there. Thanks Stephen, I had already found a supplier online - pack of 10 for about £2.50 incl postage - but that...
